Your opinions on "MIVEC"?

What do u guys think about the new "MIVEC" for the EVO IX iyo? I am curious to see what kind of power the Evo IX will make compared to the current EVO VIII! Specially after adding cams. Im guessing that if its the same thing that the STi has with variable valve timing it will be a problem tunning the car specially after cams bc i see alot of STI's having tunning problems bc of this. So what do u guys think? Would u keep the Evo 8 or trade for a IX for the "MIVEC"

Keeping my 05... Not worth the extra payment to me. Great car though!

i remember readin on here one time that a guy from malaysia or somewhere around there had his IX already, and mitsu of japan told him that if he wanted to make some real power, that he would have to switch to a non mivec head i.e evo 8 head.....anybody else remember reading this

I would like to trade my 03 for a IX. Mivec is gonna be very nice for those of us who use the car for its intended function.....rally and road racing. Drag racers probably wont care for it much but who buys and evo to race it in a straight line anyway!

Thats what i thought! I think the current 4g63 is more power capable than the one with the MIVEC due to the variable valve timing on the intake cam. I think it be better keeping an Evo 8 and buying a IX for those of you that can afford it. Or buying a IX if u want to keep the car stock or lightly modify it.

Mivec on the EVO 9 is a great addition. Unlike the regular MIVEC uses on their other engines this one only changes valve timing and duration (not lift) in the upper rpms, alot like VTEC on the Honda. Well lets just say there won't be a market for CAM upgrades on the EVO 9 IMHO

See thats the bad thing bc the cams on the current Evo models make a huge difference in power and top end!! But everyone will but the car depending on their likes and needs!

IMO MIVEC = Mitsubishi's Inevitable Violent Engine Catastrophe = just one more complexity added to the car = just one more thing to go wrong ... which on a is definitely not a good thing. It may be a good thing for a stock Evo 9, since it should allow to provide us with a more powerful engine while still meeting emissions standards, but for modding purposes, I'd rather go without.

mivec should be amazing on the IX, look at vtech on hondas like the ls motor on boost. if you add a vtech head on an ls turbo you gain like 80 whp up top, that is SICK. most people complain of top end on the freeway falling off on the 8 and i see no reason why the addition of mivec won't eliminate that top end drop.

i hope to god that the evo doesnt walk in the footsteps of the talons and eclipses, 1st ones were great, make power, light fast, 2nd gen, uhh so so, 3rd gen straight up sucked. i know we are at VIII now but it seems to be going in that direction... watch 2011 Evo XI will prolly have like a V6 hybrid or somthing gaay lets hope not though....

the evo X comes out as a 2007 model as far as I know. that means the evo 9 will only be out one year, because the evo X is supposed to have a completely different powerplant. I'm hoping for a beefy 4g64 stock and a larger turbo making the car has 350 hp but we'll see what happens. Thats gonna make the 9 the weird step child because it will be the only 2.0 turbo mitsu motor to have mivec. I think the 9 is gonna be rough to make tons of power from.
