Even if someone can " tune a car ", the flash software is very diff then any other tuning tool on the market. Its taken some time to master it. It doesnt come with an owners manual on how to tune it, it has no load sites nor rpms sites, and you cant view in real time. Al from dynoflash can attest its not as easy as one might think. Good luck

P.s. im going out to see some people from aem in the fall, if it can wait ill custom tune your car

Do you Have an Guesstimate as to when ? My situation is I have no tuning medium and Have been actively searching for whats my best solution, Dynoflash, Turbo Trix, and XEDE have all been floating around but I haven't yet sunk my teeth into anything due to various reasons.

I hate the Idea of tuning myself but also don't like being chained to a tuner, anyone else going thru this?

Thats got to be the scariest part for me, The tuning myself. With a Flash it's a 100$ upgrade charge. If you dont mind me asking what was the charge to attempt to tune the utec?

11.8 Seconds @ 122mph Quartermile

Check out my dyno graph at their website

Good solid numbers , congrats. Just guessing what was the average Cost of the initial tune and subsequent tuning sessions if any at Harman , for your Utec?
Not trying to pry but trying to get a figure on Expense. thanks in advance

What ere your modifcations and power level?

It is true that to go richer you need more injector on time, however, in my experience you would need rather significant mods to max out the stock injectors at a 12.0 / 1 a/f.

Very valid points, however if I absolutely, positively have to get in touch with you to get my car fixed/ looked at/ whatever, then I'm SOL if I'm not in your local area. Actually, I follow both you and Al's work/progress and read each of your's forum's each day. I see the exchanges that take place and as a result I formed my rational for going local. Plus, I want to remain a fan of you both, hell Al's car is on my desktop at work and your car is the screen saver.

peace

Hey AL what is your Experience with the MAX boost and hold of the stock turbo with Race gas?

Also AL, Not to start a Tuner debate but I would like your opinion On Vishnu's Latest and greatest SMART update to the XEDE.

My question is ; Doesn't the stock ECU already do exactly what the SMART upgrade does?

And because it isnt a set it then mod like crazy and it will tune itself.
Isnt it basically a Flash that has better control of what the stock ECU does already?

In your opinion will the "flash" technology one day produce similar or respected power gains of the Stand Alones?

Kinda hard when you can't Find the Phone Number to TT !

Mac, I think Mark from TT put it best by saying that even tho you arn't local to him the flash game is a lot of trial and error , by going to Harmon over these two tuners you are giving up alot of tried and True tunes which many people live and die by.

Also with Al re-flashing cars to update mods at 124$ , what is Harmon going to charge you is my point. thats been my biggest fear of standalones is being at the mercy of a tuner, and his prices. with the flash technology no matter what I throw at it 3 days , 124$ later I am solved .

it was 1100+tax (utec + 1hour dyno tune)

Apexi power intake, JIC ex-manifold, TXS downpipe, 02 housing, Highflow car, full 3" catback, HKS EVC5. Before the dyno tune, i told Dan that i don't need aggressive tune and i want the boost level of 20psi. i endup with 22psi and i experience knock around 5k rpm and 7k rpm. my dyno tune map was base on txs stage 1 map.

i made 288.41 whp, 270.37 torque.

So he basically thru in the tuning for free considering you prolly bought the Utec from him, and his dyno rental time used to be 100 with AFR logging for an hour.

Did he say what future tuning would run? and were you pleased with the Utec's ability to tune and would you feel comfortable tuning it yourself with basic knowledge?

i was pleased with the power of Utec. Because Utec is a powerful tool, you better read the instruction manual at least 2x. Utec let you mod the timing, fuel and boost. Basic knowledge is not enough for utec if you want to tune it yourself. I recommend you to do more research and ask MalibuJack if you run into any problem

Thanks for the Advise! I haven't yet made a tuning decision but hope to make the right coice for me. Why did you decide to sell your Utec? What is your current EMS? Or Flash?
