Need Stereo Help....

i have an '03 evo with an aftermarket stereo. my mids and highs are perfect but i need some help with the subs. i have been through a couple of set ups and still not satisfied. first i had 2 jl audio 12s in a sealed box in the spare tire area firing up. this did not sound good at all and i was told that adding dynomat to the trunk lid would help. i did not end up doing this and instead got one mtx 9500 12 in the spare tire area firing diagonally back(sub is tilted up). this has not sounded so good either.

now im thinking about taking the enclosure out of the spare tire well and just getting either one 12 ported or 2 12s sealed (maybe 2 10s ported). my amp is a mtx 1501d (750w x1 at 4ohm, 1500w x1 at 1 ohm). the 12s i want to use are one adire audio brahma ported or 2 kicker L7s sealed. i want to make the box portable, where i can remove it if needed so i will more than likely fire the subs back towards the trunk. i have a rear strut bar, which is making it hard to come up with a custom set up. i want sound quality as well as spl. i mostly listen to rap so something that hits low would be nice. are there any other subs you guys would recommend? what set up would be the best? please post helpful information. thanks!

I have 1- jl 8w7 in a sealed box with a 400w Pheonix gold amp powering it and it sounds awsome. The sound is very tight and accurate, not that big boomy sound. I listen to alot of rock and rap.

I went for budget cheap paper sub It actually sound pretty decent for under $200.00 and have room in the trunk.

Just two screws to get to the washer fluid and easy to remove if needed to reduce weight for some weekend events

I wouldve stuck with the JLs and just put them in a ported box and just dynomated the trunk. Evos aint known for too much sound quality IMO

I have a 12w7 in a ported box that fires down- sweet set up! built the box with handles so I can slide it out when needed (after removing 4 allen bolts)

It thumps pretty hard to a level where you won't go deaf. I hardly have any bass without it . I guess it's good value for the $ spent and compact enough to give me some trunk storage.

I have a JL audio 12W6 in a JL Audio H.O. wedge enclosure. It barely fit in the trunk, but sounds great. It is powered be a JL audio 500/1 amp.

I have the 8w7 in the sealed box because the HO box was to big and i like to have some trunk space. The 8w7 in the HO box was awsome in my car, really thumped.

SQ and SPL are not friends. whats really crazy is your not happy with the bass when your running 1500 watts RMS on two 12's. **** i have nothing but components in the door and the bass from them will vibrate my rear view mirror... all that running off the stock HU. i have a MTX 895 5 channel amp pushing a kappa perfect 12, but just like you wasn't happy with the SQ from it. i took it all out and am happy now i have been in the process of building a custom fit fiberglas box for it to give it a try (fits in the right rear trunk corner facing across), but sense my aftermarket radio got ripped off that project is on hold.
