Is a salvage evo for $17K worth it?
I wouldn't do it, you never know how much dammage was done to the chassis, and how that will affect the handling of the car at the limits. Maybe for something under 10k, definatly not for anything over 10k.
ABSOLUTELY WORTH IT. I have the exact same thing!! I bought mine for 17K in Utah, it was flipped or something, it has a salvaged title and as long as the motor is good (mine had only 9k miles) I'd ****** it up again in a heartbeat!! was the best deal I'd ever gotten.
btw: these people dont know what they are talking about w/ respect to insurance, mine is just the same as if it were a new lancer... they didn't even care that it was salvaged, I specifically told them that it was over and over and over (trying to insure it for less than the car's full value) but they didn't care and said they treat it same as every other car b/c the parts for repair are the same cost, no matter whether its been wrecked or not. (I have progressive)

im willing to bet there is nothing wrong with the car now that it has been repaired, but 17k for a salvage car sounds like a lot. espeically when you can find some used evos for just a few grand more. see if you can talk this guy downa few grand then it might be worth it.
Buying a car with a salvage title isn’t always a bad thing. I purchased my 2003 Evo for 15,000. I had a 100 point inspection done on the car before I even thought about buying it. The inspection doesn’t mean the car is perfect but it does help point out major problems that your excitement sometimes covers up. Obviously there is risk involved and you may end up buying a lemon but I wouldn’t throw away the opportunity to have an Evo for a good price just because it has a salvage title. With respect to insurance I have had no problems at all. Imho do your research, try to get a lower price, (I think 17,000 is a bit high) if it still looks good go for it.

For you guys that think $17k is a rip (that's his asking price and he could probably get it cheaper), where can you buy a repairable wrecked EVO for less than $10k? I have not seen any less than $10k that were rebuildable. I'm just curious. I'm not sure I would ever buy a salvaged car, but the price doesn't seem far off.

damn 17k, I dont know, just the peace of mind in buying a used evo for 25k would be worth it for me. Because you know the thought is always going to be in the back of you mind. Especially when something goes wrong with it, you are always going to question the salvage title. Not to mention resale of the car will be harder with the s title.

NEVER I repeat never buy a salvage title auto. I did and I got screwed. Unless the price is super cheap, but even then it might not be worth it because no one wants to buy them. Resale value is crap.
