From what I have read on this forum, dealers have done bad jobs with clutches.

$800 for clutch install!

WTF, The guy who tuned my car says that the clutch takes 10 hours. His shop rate is 68/hr. So WTF, That would be $680. BTW my car has an EXEDY hyper single and 11,000 miles (just bought used). When I got it, a couple of weeks ago, it did not slip, but was at the top of travel and could not be adjusted down. Now it is slipping. arrrghh. I ordered an ACT HD street clutch.

Maybe ask cruisin_lancer. He's in your area.

BTW, I'm moving to ABQ in two weeks.

Another price for install

I was quoted $720 by another shop in ABQ. They are a tuner of various makes including evos. I see 400-500-550-600-650 for clutch installs all over the country on this board including much pricier areas than ABQ. So what gives? How do I find a shop to install my clutch for cheaper and still get a good job? Anybody know what the dealer charges? I really don't want to go to them but I am thinking that they may be cheaper than these guys.

Would anybody trust a non-evo or non-mitsu familiar shop with a clutch install? The book says 10 hours, is this just time or is there a lot of skill involved? Any special tools?

I am begining to think that I should take two days off work and try it myself. (My wife will love that.) I have some good tools and a garage.

I do them for $500. (ime in Tucson) yes, its a 10 hour job. I have a lift and impacts, and it still takes that long. You would much rather pay someone like me who goes slow and true than trying to beat a clock. Plus you can help and know EXACTLY whats happening. Shop around, you will find someone. Just remember, some of the best installers might be in somebodies back yard!!!

This is definitely not something I'd want to do myself because of the time commitment. If you're feeling brave though, there is a howto:

Also, its a good idea to change out the Transfer case o-ring. They are only a few bucks at the dealer. You want to lube it with grease....Ray

flywheel resurfacing

Thanks for all the good advice! I found a place in ABQ - Mr. Clutch - they do a lot of clutches and will do mine for $570.00. I think that since they have done a lot, probably no evos though, they should be good. Anyway, does anybody know if I should go ahead and buy a flywheel? Should it be resurfaced? Can it be resurfaced? The dealer says they are throw away flywheels. Another factor - my car had an EXEDY hyper single when I bought it so it might have an after market flywheel. The car has 11,000 miles - unknown number of miles on EXEDY clutch. Thanks.

I'm down with OPP.

Let us know how it works out. I've been told there is a good tech at the mitsu dealer on Coors, but I haven't met him yet.
