insurance question on windshield

well, yesterday morning, i heard that "thwack!" sound while driving to work and sure enough a rock had made a good size crack in my windshield.

the oem front windshield is made of a lighter, more expensive glass if i'm not mistaken. my question is will i get screwed and only get a cheaper replacement or can i request an oem spec windshield? insurance gurus help please.

I had my windsheild replaced recently.

Give the glass shop your Vin, and they can figure it out.

The glass is not the same as the regular lancer windshield. Technically it will fit, but you will have problems with the rear view mirror mount and the trim on the outside.

The OEM glass is bloody expensive, so i hope you have a low decutable on your comprehensive insurance.

Do a search for the details, this has been discussed before.

Good luck!

I would rather have it repaired with my own money because I called progressive to get my windshield chip repaired. They told me it wont affect my insurance records, but it did cost me 1 point. I was notified about this when I switched to State Farm, thank goodness it didnt raise my rates or anything because it is so minor. Still made me mad because I wanted a clean clean record, because so far my driving and insurance history is perfect, even this minor 1 point angers me. It would only cost $30-$50 to repair, or even cheaper if you do it yourself, seems like its easy to do yourself. If your going to replace or repair your windshield, call and make sure that it wont affect your insurance history/records, and take down names and stuff just in case. I think its BS what progressive did, but whatever

i didnt know you could "repair" a crack. isn't that dangerous to have a weak point in your windshield?

oh, and i do have windshield coverage which doesnt come with a deductible.

How big is the crack or chip? Bigger or smaller than a dime? I think if its bigger than a dime, it might not be good to repair it but thats what Progressive said so YMMV, also the repair didnt cost me nothing but 1 stupid point

That sucks. It's a sickening feeling when you here that cracking sound. The same thing happened to me exactly two hours after applying a Klasse two stage sealer wax that made my car look beautiful... I was seriously mad, and wanted to pull the guy in front of me over in order to kick his butt, lol!

If you have the extra coverage on insurance they will cover it without a deduct.

Never go through insurance on minor things. It will only come back to nip you in the ***, eventually. Just order a regular lancer windshield. It cost me 250. No biggie.

ok think i can help...... had mine repaced twice!!!!!!! First time i had my windshield and driver side front window replaced after my car got vandalized. I was stupid and didn't ask what glass they were going to put in. Well i got cheap none OEM glass.........long story short there was nothing i could do about it..... then two weeks after i got my car back a rock cracked my windshield!!!!!!! (i hava some bad luck with this car) So i call my insurace company up (ERIE) they transfer me over to ERIE GLASS....they tell me if they can fix it it is free and if it has to be replace it is 100$..... I didn't think it could be fixed so i told her i wanted OEM glass (OEM glass is around 900$) she looked at my policy and said no problem.

I do not get points and my insurance doesn't go up........ this why I didn't go with Progressive or GEICO

the windshield in your car is designed to save you in a crash........ anything less then OEM will compormise your safety in an accident..... im all about saveing money but not here........ Windshields are a comprehensive claim and they do not make you insurance go up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! trust me i had about 10 of them in the last 7 years
