Screeching noise (Evo VIII MR) - please HELP!!
Ok,
Have been out on another drive again (around 50 miles) just to test if the car did this again. On start up, I tried reversing and imitating the parking manoevre I did yesterday with full and partial steering lock in both directions and going backwards and then forwards. Result....no reproduction of the screeching noise!
When I came back from the drive, I again attempted the identical parking manoevre to fit into a small space. The noise came back, but nowhere near as loud as yesterday. It basically occurs when in (almost) the limit of the turning circle and mostly when reversing. It does happen when going forwards but very slightly and there seems to be a need for reaching the limit of the turning circle for it to happen.
Hence, given all this....is it likely steering pump, belt or fluid lack? ( I haven't checked the fluid...it was dark (and I have to admit I've never checked power steering fluid levels before
).
Is it something I should take immediate action with? The steering of the car seems unaffected...perfect except the noise. Can it wait until my 9000 mile service.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
