Save money when buying new set of keys...

I lost a set of keys and remote. I needed a second set in order to sell my EVO. Reading around here, I knew I had to go to the dealer. I knew it wasn't going to be cheap either. I let my buyer know about it, and he got quoted $340 at his local Mitsu stealership. I figured I'd have a better price at my dealer. Here's the breakdown.

Key - $30
Key programming - $25
Remote - $95
Remote Programming - $25
-------
Total=$175

I think that's the average price for all it. Anyways, I bought my keyless entry remote off eBay for only $10 and asked the dealer to program it with the key.

Total cost=$90 (key, remote, and programming for both)

For only $90, I should have gotten replacement key and remote a long time ago. If anyone got it done cheaper, then let everyone else know Remember, I only had 1 key so it's a more difficult situation.

I thought there was someway to program the remote yourself. Does anybody know how? If so all you have to is get the remote. I tried what is says in the service manual and could not get it to work.

I had only one key, as one was destroyed for my remote start. Only cost $75 to cut and program another key, at the dealership.

$30 for a key is quite good... some dealers charge like $60

if you have 2 keys in your hand.. then they don't have to reprogram your key.. you can do it yourself.. instruction is in the manual. but charging $25 for program your key is very cheap compare to other dealers dude... some other dealers charge like $80 bucks
(i get myself extra set from dealer so i know a bit)

as for remote... i dont know much about programming it so. sorry cant' help

You dont have to program the remote.....you ECU will accept the signal from many different transmitters. There is a sequence of ON/OFFs and then you have to press the TX to program the ECU to accept the new signal.
