Need advice *accident*
Man I really don't know what to do..
we weren't street racing or even speeding when this all happened
Her GC8 is on the inside lane of a three lane interstate even with the car infront of me, im in the outside lane in my evo, behind someone.. my friend in his turblow mr2 is a couple cars ahead in the middle lane. i change lanes to the middle lane and start to accelerate
i realize at one point or another i was in my friends blind spot.. but she starts to merge into the middle lane as well, where i already am. i see her coming and swerve slightly towards the outside lane, but i couldnt go very far as a random car is next to me ( the one that used to be infront of me ). I'm even with the GC8 and she is still merging.. i go WOT to try and get out of the way, for some reason she doesnt stop merging and i hear *bang* "WTF!"
i look in the rearview, and her GC8 has overcorrected and goes headfirst into the concrete divider, lifts up off the ground, and crashes down, sliding across the three lanes and slams into another concrete wall on the other side.. we both quickly pull over and run to her car.. i don't even look to see the dmg on my car *scariest thing i have ever seen in my life*
a million people have stopped and by the time i can run up she is already out of her car and laying on the ground, shaking from the shock of the accident ( i originally thought it was a seizure ). she gets taken to the hospital, and 2 hours later we can finally go in to see her, and they say she is totally fine.. that the airbags saved her life. She is a little loopy from the accident, has some bruises and her face is somewhat burned from the airbag dust, but nothing is broken and she doesnt have any internal bleeding.. she is most likely going to be very sore the next week and may need a little massage therapy.
that was 2 days ago... today- she is still fine, and i am obviously fine as well. her car is impossibly totalled.. mine.. well the damage is a lot less than i originally thought it was going to be. my rear drivers side wheel is really rashed and has some scuffing. the rear bumper has paint missing, about an inch wide and 3-4 inches in length.. right by the wheel. there is a little scratching on the body panel above the wheel..
i dont know if she doesnt think its her fault, or what shes going to do with insurance.. but i think its going to be expensive to get fixed to get my car fixed. I'm taking it in for an estimate tomorrow when I get my 30k maitenance done. At first I didn't care about my car because I honestly thought she was dead.. but now that I know she is alright, my feelings have changed. I feel like a selfish sh1thead.. but I don't want to have to pay out of my pocket to fix my car, and I don't want to have to use my insurance to fix it either. She hit me, and I feel like it was her fault the accident happened.. even though she is my friend I expect it to be $1000+ to get everything fixed.
I really feel like a bad person about this, she loved her GC8 and now it's totally destroyed, she is hurt and going to have other things to deal with, and now that I know she is physically okay, all I can think about is my car and how much it'd cost to get it fixed!
What should I do? Should I approach her about paying for it? Should I call up my insurance and take the hit or pay out of my pocket? I have a $500 deduct.. and if it's going to cost that much if I have to fix it myself, I might as well just order the evo IX bumper and do that instead
sorry for the story im just really confused and frustrated
thanks..

Man I'm sorry to here about that. Thank God everyone's okay. With an accident like this there was a police report written right? Who did the officer find at fault? I would let the insurance handle this as minor damage would still be kind of pricey out of your own pocket. The main thing is that everyone is alright. I am sure everything will work it self out. Good luck to you guys.

I wouldn't say anything to her until she asks about it just put it in your insurance agents hands and tell her you did when she asks. Just say I gave the situation to my insurance company they can decide what to do from here because I can't. Easy as that. Just make sure she understands that you still car about her and your not trying to **** her over, **** just needs to get fixed.

Yeah, this is confusing. In such a crazy accident, there had to be a police officer (or 5) who showed up and wrote the official report. It should have been just like any accident where the officer gets the story of all people involved and finds someone at fault. In this case, she hit YOUR car while changing lanes without seeing you, and then had a terrible accident. It should have been pretty obvious that it was her fault, and in such case, her insurance would be liable for fixing her car, paying her medical bills, and paying to fix your car while also providing you a rental while it's in the shop. If you did not exchange insurance info at the scene, then something is wrong. Obviously, she was in bad shape at the time, but the officer handling things would not have let you just leave without making sure all the information was recorded, and you should have arranged for a way to exchange insurance info with a family member of hers or later at the hospital. Doing it 2-3 days later would probably not work out too well...
wow.. plenty of replies already. i was just going to edit my original post for grammar- heh.
GC8 = 2000 subaru 2.5RS
honestly, I'm uncertain about the police report- if there is one, what it says.. etc. Everything happened very quickly and while my friend and I were standing around her on the interstate there were plently of people in uniforms.. mainly EMTs and firemen from what i can remember. people originally were under the impression it was a hit and run or she did it on her own, but my friend and I corrected them and told them she came into the lane and hit my car.. but we didn't know the damage and it was probably minor. amongst all the confusion, as aforementioned, I don't know about a police report

regrettably all her family is in singapore, and her old roomate had just moved out of state ( and into a new phone number ) so my friend and I really had no idea who to call concerning her insurance or anything.. we weren't even sure if she had full-coverage, or if she even had health insurance or anything. ( obviously she was incapable of talking to us ). this was in NYS, and like I said before it didn't seem like there were any police around.. or none that I can remember. No one asked for my insurance, and trying to search through her car was very difficult, but someone was able to find her passport.
i should have acted more intelligently and self-serving at the time, but to be honest i was much more overwhelmed with her and if she was going to die etc. up untill yesterday afternoon when i finally got a moment to relax did I start to think about my own vehicle

i was in the outside behind a car, she was on the inside.. even with the car in front of me
i move into the middle lane and accelerate.. and she begins to merge into the middle lane
all three cars now are even, and she is still coming into the middle lane.. i had been accelerating, so i kept accelerating ( WOT ) to try and get out.. i almost made it, but she ended up touching my read bumper. i feel that if i wouldnt have done anything she would have swiped my car directly, with basically all my driver side wheels hitting her passenger side wheels, and everything else scraping. in reaction it was easier to just gas then brake i guess
edit: i was initially in her blind spot when i first moved into the lane, but any point after that- i should have been easily noticeable, in my opinion
