What wrong with the dealerships?

I went to the dealership today, to get a gauge bulb. I showed the guy the bulb and the socket it goes in, he looked at it for awhile, and left the room. He came back and said this socket looks burned, and it must be shorting out, and they needed to look at it. He told me it was going to cost me $218 for them to look at it. I told them no thanks, and a light bulb would turn it alittle black, and if it was shorting out, it would have blown a fuse, or all the gauge lights would be out!!!! He said what ever and I bought just the bulb and was out of there.

I am wrong about the socket being blackish?

socket could be a bit blackish, that's normal, but it's got burnt spots, it's dead.

just don't let dealers do small things. Let them do things you can't, or don't feel like being liable for.

adding to that, not all dealerships are like that. You just have to know how to work the dealership and the service department.
