There's at least one thread in this forum where at least one person said Mitsu replaced theirs for free. I don't know why they wouldn't fix or replace it if the car's under warranty.
I didn't bother with the dealer. I figured it would just keep doing it so I repainted mine myself with high heat paint and it's still looking good.
Not hard to do either.
