Question Evo VIII owners...

Hey guys - many of you probably don't know me - I'm a noob here...but I'm just trying to get some information because I am probably going to eventually become an evo owner and I want to know...

Compared to your previous cars or other cars you've driven...how do you like your Evo?

How would you rate the aftermarket for the Evo VIII on a scale from 1 - 10? (10 the best)

Any major things you dislike about the car?

BTW, I drive a Nissan Spec-V SE-R ... I was going to drop a turbo in it but seems like too much of a hassle to pay 4 grand for it

Welcome future EVO/Mitsu. owner
Let me start out by saying that previous to this I owned a Toyota Supra TT, and the difference is night and day. So I cant really make that type of comparisson because one is a 2 door vs 4dr (Practicality +1), RWD vs AWD(Major +1 again for the evo) it doesnt have the top end the supra had but I would say that the aftermarket on the EVO is as comparable to the Supra..
You see, it all depends on what you are looking to do in your EVO. if you are looking for performance.. yes you have come to the right place/car because I know even though it has been discussed a million time over in regards to the type of performance/handling you would find in other vehicles of this calibre, you would have to spend as much as three times the money or more.
also remember that when ever you have a vehicle like the evo, you are going to have to start spending money on it. Remember SPEED does cost money... But before you go from a Sentra (Dont get me wrong your car is a bit peppy as well)to an EVO, and start to try to match everyone's list of MODS(Modifications) you will certainly have to learn your vehicle and its capabilities and/or limitations.. as well as YOUR OWN...

I know I havent been a great deal of help in your decission making, but then again I am also a (kind of) noob myself.. lol

Good Luck with what ever you get.. I know everyone on here will be as supportive and as helpful as they have been to me...

PS: Sorry for the long message/response..

These cars are simply amazing, most cars that can cause this much excitement cost a lot more. I have a 92 talon turbo and it can't even touch the evo.

The ride can be rough on bumpy roads but you'll get use to it. I also dont like how fast I put miles on it either but thats just because I can't stop driving it.

Coming from the Spec V myself, I can just say the car (EVO) is manufactured purely for the performance enthusiast, the Sentra on the other hand was made in Mexico for younger American's who were tricked into thinking it was a Mini Skyline. The 6 speed was nice, the QR25DE has great low end grunt, but to compare the two cars is blasphamy!! Just be prepared for higher prices at the pump (to run 96 or higher depending on the mix you run) and more expensive maintenance (tires, clutches, etc.), not too mention higher monthly payments. Insurance was cheaper though!!

BTW, I was on a MOD on the VBoard for quite some time, so was my crew, most guys now all drive AWD turbo's...WRX's and EVO's...

Thanks for all the replies guys... damn you guys are so nice over here ...

I'm from the Vboard and I can't say the same about most of the people on there. I really want to get involved here even though I do not own an Evo.

The evo is an AMAZING car!!! I had a 2000 eclipse before it. My eclipse hung w/ a spec v in mid to high range power. Driving the evo is like another world!! To me, it's worth every penny in car payment and insurance!! The aftermarket for it is crazy. And they are beautiful from the factory. No body modding needed to make it look sexy. HID headlights are a big + for me. Enkei wheels, brembo brakes, CF spoiler, aluminum vented hood. The car is just amazing. It has been my dream car for years and now I have one.

my previous cars were both jeeps. not only is the evo my first car, its my first high performance machine ( a bit nuts now that i look back) the evo is simply amazing. dont worry about moddding until you get to know the car and your own abilitiies really well. the aftermarket seems as strong for the evo as anythign else out there so its not an issue. just wait until yo get one its one hell of a ride

i have an 00 Audi S4 and a 05 Evo MR and the Evo is a much different car.

pros: faster, better handling, more fun to drive, more aftermarket goodies, cheaper aftermarket goodies, responds much better to bolt-ons, etc.

cons: interior not nearly as nice, louder inside, attracts more attention from cops and streetracers, more of a vandalism target.

overall though, the Evo has proven to be even more fun and nicer to drive than i thought it was going to be. and mine is still stock !!!

I almost did the turbo Spec-V too. I came to same conclusion: too much hassle!

Dude, you don't even understand yet. It's such a great upgrade going from Spec-V to Evo. No wheel hop, no torque steer (though on my 04's torque steer wasn't that bad), and much faster. And don't get me wrong, I love the Spec-V!

The aftermarket is a 10 -- there's so much there, you'll spend a lot of time just trying to decide which direction to go (where I'm at now).

There's nothing I don't like on the Evo other then cosmetic things. I took the antenna off the first day and the tail lights are a little weak.

You'll have a blast, do it!

EDIT: I'm also CGs on the vboard, those guys are great but they can be a little harsh
