WOW 50hp is a lot to lose to stupid silencer. I would tell the GF to suck it up (no pun intended). The exhaust is a lil to loud on my P5 but my wife eventually got over it.

#1 Reason is muffler design. Of course piping has something to do with it but when comparing 10 different 3" exhausts it comes down to the muffler

My gf also told me the car felt faster, not sure if she just saying it so ill keep the silencer on BTW I have a Greddy Ti TBE.

The more mods you have, the more the silencer will effect your car. You won't be able to tell much difference especially at the low rpm range you're reving your car at. Smaller/longer exhaust is "usually" better for low rpm range anyways. For me, the louder exhaust won't effect a single bit since you aren't getting pulled over by any cops why put the silencer on? Don't get punked by your GF man!!!

I think RNR makes one of the quietest performance exhausts out there. Its 3 inches and has a couple resonators, but seems to flow very well. I dumped a perfectly good Greddy Ti for it and am happy. I miss the bragging rights, but not the volume. I also don't notice a performance difference.

I have the RMR exhaust which has two resonators built in. It's pretty loud upon start up and pretty loud while cruising around certain area's (you know the ones where you dont want to create attention). Once the car is warmed up and i am idle, it is VERY quiet. I am still plaing with the idea of putting a resonator in my testpipe. I havent been bothered yet, so who knows what i will wind up doing.

and to the guy above me, most exhausts of quality will put down similiar numbers.

Do most of you have other mods that might be contributing to your loud exhaust issues? Things like after market cat or no cat? I'm asking because I have a 9 on order and will be looking at getting some sort of after market cat back exhaust if it can provide some sort of benefit for solo2 stock class performance. I don't know how this car is in stock trim, but with my completely stock 2nd gen eclipse turbo I was able to run a straight pipe cat back and you could barely tell the difference as far as sound. I was thinking this car would be similar but am not sure after reading through this post. Thoughts?

no cat is definetly louder thanwith a cat or highflow cat.

i would suggest a nice exhaust system witha resonator. Its not really much quieter from the outside, but you get NO RESONATION on the inside of the car....makes cruising at 70mph MUCH more enjoyable
