According to Corky Bell a turbo will rarely if ever save you gas.

Leaner? Yes. Lean? No. The factory tune on the Evo drops below 11.5 at 5200rpm at WOT, and then falls below 10 by 6000rpm. We run so rich above peak torque that you can gain lots of HP just by fixing the AFRs. That's why flashes work so well right out of the box...there's a LOT of power to be found just from fixing the factory tune (or detune rather). Same with an S-AFC. I brought my AFR back up from the depths of hell and got them even across the entire RPM range and picked up around 20-25whp with no other mods.

With extra boost on the factory tune, you will improve some of the richness, but it won't run lean. Similar phenomenon with an untuned intake...the extra air leans out the AFRs, which can provide power at the top end in and of itself just by pseudo-tuning out the factory richness.

Yes, for SURE, if you turn the boost down and stay out of boost, you'll save gas, probably 3-5mpg. . .at the same time, if you just drive less aggressive, you'll save gas as well. . .turning the boost down will be depressing though, your car will feel boggy if you flat line peak boost to like 10psi or something. . .

I say all of this from experience from my previous car that put down 401fwhp at 17psi, and at 10psi, felt boggy (I would get another 40miles to the tank with the boost turned down, NOT worth the loss of performance IMO). . . .and of course an '05 Sti, that felt REAL boggy with the boost turned down as well. . . I only did that on long highway trips where I'm out of boost anyways. . .

This statement is false, you will not get better mileage if you adjust the WG to open later at full throttle while you drive around at part throttle, it has no affect at all on fuel or timing maps that would be different at part throttle just by changing maximum boost pressure.. The only circumstance you will see a gain in mileage is at WOT with higher/lower boost levels.

dont turn the boost down guys! Turn the sucker up a bit and enjoy the damn car 8- ) I rather waste a little more gas to have more power than to save gas and to make the car slower 8- x Anyway, I got an hks bar gauge and was wondering when I punch it, sometimes the boost fluctuates and gets up and down, and sometimes it stays still. Do I have a boost leak somewhere maybe? I Never put my aftermarket turbo inlet pipe on yet, I still got the stock one on with my helix intercooler piping, I just did it a weird way and stuff a piece of coupler in there for now so I thought it wouldnt leak..
