2005 vs 2006, straight viii vs. mr

i just got approval from the missus to start shopping for an evo - went and looked at a 2005 white w/black leather, with the sunroof and the upgraded infinity system and fell in love with the car. heres the thing though. as much as i like that car, would i be better off waiting to get a 2006 with the updated front end/interior, or is there an advantage to getting an mr over the standard evo. the car will be a daily driver and will have a bunch of miles put on it, so dipping into the aftermarket will be kept to a minimum.

ive always driven rwd v8 sports cars, so this is going to be a new trek for me - just wanted to get the opinions from people in the know!!

thanks!!

if you don't plan on doing atleast some performance mods, this car isn't gonna wake up. They detune the **** out of it with the crappy exhaust from the factory.

The car is very enjoyable though, and i would suggest buying an 05 right now...because this month they are running 0% interest on all 05 cars...INCLUDING THE EVO. you will save 4-5k ATLEAST by buying the 05 viii.

seriously!

yah you can get a 9 and have MIVEC but you can also just save thousands and buy an 05 with 0% intrest.

bare minimum if you put 4-5k in this car (engine mods) you'll have 400awhp.

Yesterday, they were giving you 23k. No, of course they won't give you the same price for a GSR with SSL. Get real, plz, and don't jack people's threads.

Jon, I think you should go get an 05 MR at invoice (33k) with 0% financing this month. Since you will be driving it a lot and putting on a lot of miles, the Bilstein shocks will make it much more comfortable on a daily basis, while also providing the extra perks the MR has to offer, since you won't be modding.

The 6spd will also be helpful (gas mileage/less noise) when cruising on the highway during those many miles you drive...

This is exactly what I did 1 1/2 months ago. 33K for a brand new MR (plus a VERY generous trade in). It really is too good a deal to pass up if you can find one (no reason you shouldn't). I'm closing in on 5000 miles for this period alone and the Bilsteins/six speed really matter. Plus you get the chance of having the best Evo color out there...

Food for thought-

On the Evo 8, the difference between 5th gear and 6th gear is minimal, only a couple hundred rpm's at 70 mph. On the 9 they shortened the top gear on the five speed significantly so it will drone much more on the highway. If you must have leather and a sunroof, the 05 will be easier to live with. MR will never have a sunroof because of the aluminum roof, and it's designed for performance, which 60 lbs in the roof is not really geared towards.

I was on the same boat as you. I wanted to wait for the evo IX because i loved the upgrated front bumper, the interior and mivec. But if you think about it there isnt that much difference in the exterior or interior of the car.. i mean you can always buy the EVO iX bumper/frnt lights/tail lights and even the seats with the $$ that you will save if you buy an 05 evo. You can get good deals right now on the 05's. Plus you wont get below invoice when the evo IX comes out. Evo is an Evo, if you can get one new for a good deal...then why not! what ever your decition is am sure you'll be happy! good luck!
