Bov

Im a little confused on y i need a mr bov. Everyone says that the stocker leaks. So maybe im confused on how the turbo works. I know i might be wrong on both cases but let me know.

say 20psi:

1. BOV leaks but the car makes its required PSI (say 20), therefore the turbo has to work harder (spool faster) to maintain the required psi.

2. The turbo always spools to its max performance and the waistgage relieases air to achieve the required psi of 20, therefore the turbo is NOT working harder because it always spooling to the max no matter if WOT or not.

now say if the stock turbo max psi is 25psi and im running 25psi, if my bov is leaking than my waistgage is NOT releasing and air (because the turbo is maxed) but because the bov is leaking (2psi leak) i would only boost 23. So than YES i would need a better BOV.

you are veary wrong. ok you sound like you know the basics of how a turbo works but your a little light on the physics of it all. now as your turbo spools up the exauhst is used to create energy to supply the intake with compressed air. as it does this it also creates heat. heat is bad. the faster or harder you turbo has to work in order to create a said amount of boost the more heat comes with it. so with that said lets use this as an example, lets say your turbo would normaly have to spin at 75k to supply ypu with 20 psi and your intake charge right out of the compressor is 150 deg. now lets say you have the same turbo with a leak some where in the plumbing. now your turbo has to spin at 150k in order to supply the same amount of boost. now your intake charge is 225 deg. in this instance you have killed the efficiency of the sestem and are losing a lot of hp, not to mention detonation is going to become an issue. its for this reason bigger turbos at the same boost lvl make more hp. less work and more volume= less heat and more hp. i hope this gives you a basic idea of what you wanted to know, there used to be some realy good links to sites that explain it alot better on this form.

thanks whitevors,

so the turbo can work harder sometimes? Someone was trying to tell me that the turbo always spools to its max and the waistgauge releases air to produce the psi that you requied when you are on the gas (but the turbo is always spooling to its limit)
