Hardly worth it in my eyes to install some parts on a car.

Not everybody knows how or wants to mess with installing parts on their car. Stop assuming people can do what you can no matter how easy it is. I can't do the normal things that most people can do. There are many people out there in similar situations like mine.

You say my installation prices and not being able to do it is retarded. You're retarded for even thinking that.
Oh, I see, so because of your injuries, now YOU are the standard for how much it costs to hit 11s? I'm sorry, but that doesn't make any sense. Just because you can't install your own parts doesn't mean 90% of the rest of us can't. As I said, I'm a mechanical misfit, so if I can install this rinky-dink stuff, almost anyone can. The few who can't are NOT the rule, but rather the exception.

None of this changes the fact that you can hit 11s for less than 2k. I plan to do it for $925 out of pocket, not including the cost of gas...

If you can't install a S-afc(3 minutes), boost controller(8 minutes), exhaust(60 minutes, only because the downpipe bolts are a B!TCH), a fuel pump(not needed, 12 minutes) you should not be behind the wheel of such a performance machine.

In evoonyoass' case, it will cost more....but that doesn't mean those prices should be considered for everyone. But, if i were in your shoes, i would hope my friends would help out. Only thing i could see the average IQ person having someone install is cams. Everything else can be done before lunch on liquor-$hit mornin.

My point was that SOME people won't even blink an eye at trying some of those things for installation because they would rather a professional do it right the first time. I know people that wouldn't even think about installing an electrical part (SAFC) because it can lead to many problems later if they hook a wire up wrong. I know people that don't care to take the time to put a car on jack stands and crawl up under the car to install a TBE. Nor do some of these people have the proper tools to do it either. Instead of buying the tools they pay a poor chap like me who has them to do it for them. Well, atleast they use to bring it to me. I guess all those people that use to bring it to me had some type of disability that I have now.

I guess all the performance shops, exhaust shops, and other various shops around the country that work on these vehicles should pack it up because MOST people should/could do these things. You ever been to a performance shop and seen how many people stop by there in any given week asking how much to install this or that? I guess not.

Before my car accident a little over 2 1/2 yrs ago, I use to install SAFC's for $100 just to make a little extra money. You would be suprized at how many people CAN'T and WON'T tackle such an easy project. Personally, I have installed about 25 or so the last year I did it, not including the year before that which I have no clue how many I did that year. Probably in the area of 40-50 total. I had it down to where I could install one fairly quickly. So your arguement that I am the exception to the rule is BS. Those people didn't have any limited physical ability, yet they just chose to have somebody else do it for them because they wouldn't blink an eye for such a project.

Yes I agree, you can build a car with some cheap *** USED products you buy off ebay. What does that leave you with? A nice *** car with cheap *** USED products that don't carry a warranty without reciept and could brake or fail during use. You don't know what might be wrong with that SAFC. Are you willing to detonate your motor for it? Would you rather spend $200 for a used one when you can buy a new one and a warranty for a little over $300? Not everybody wants to go that route. Not everybody has the money to afford a detonated motor that cost thousands to replace/rebuild.

As far as the comment about tuning an SAFC, all I have to say is that is close to the most ignorant comment I have read yet. You honestly think somebody can just play with the buttons and know what kind of air/fuel they are running? Let me in on your secret because last time I checked you needed a wideband to watch that kind of stuff or are you including buying a wideband with your prices? You SHOULDN'T make adjustments off of the factory 02 because they are so inaccurate these days. My 02 sensor in my old car was changed on 3 different occasions and all of them were what I would call severely off from what the wideband 02 at the local dyno would read while while tuning. I monitored them with a pocket logger for OBDII. I guess with your way of thinking everybody should have one of these laying around for use too? Shouldn't that be added to the cost of build? How do you tune a SAFC without these thing mentioned?

Listen up everybody, because every dyno shop in America is about to go under because Warrtalon has a great new way to tune your car that doesn't require a dyno and wideband. Oh wait, you use a wideband to tune your car too don't you? Is that included in the cost of your build? I guess most people should have these laying around too.

Please don't tell people that buying cheap *** parts for $925 they can run 11's like you. You might run these #'s, but how long will your car run for after these pass's. I would like to hear someone like AMS, Dynoflash, or Buschur to give their opinion on these comments. Until you do run those times which I highly doubt I will be sitting back waiting for your clutch, TC, or something else to grenade and add to the cost of the build.

I would also need proof like reciepts showing how much you paid for these cheap *** parts you installed on your car, the cost of the tools to install them, and the cost of the tuning devices used (wideband/pocket logger) to reach the proper air/fuel ratio?

Everybody take notes from Warrtalon, because you can save thousands of dollars and run 11's if you do it his way.

Next thing i see is about tools....Tools can be rented FOR FREE from autozone, discount auto, ect....

that arguement is pointless

Again, he never said EVERYONE can do this on these parts.....but it CAN BE DONE. that is the whole entire point...IT CAN BE DONE.

and if someone would rather pay someone 200-300 bucks to put on their exhaust, rather than do it themselves....that is downright sad. Either they have enough money that it doesn't matter(so this thread would be meaningless to them, they can get to 11s with their wallet) or they are completely incompetent.

GSUjeff, I wouldn't tune the SAFC myself unless I had some sort of device to monitor air/fuel. Why would you guess at such an important thing? I didn't see a wideband device or pocket logger with a wideband 02 in his build price. As far as the flash goes, I have no idea how much they are charging these days. My comment was about tuning the SAFC properly.

I understand about tuning the afc....i would only do it with a wideband or dyno....so thats atleast another 100 bucks on the cost. BUT, if you don't want a afc you can get a custom flash....for the price of the afc+wideband or dynotime.

i belive he mentioned that in his original price post.

I didn't know they rent tools for free. That is news to me. Very cool to know though, thanks.

I only put down $100-150 to install the exhaust. That is what I use to charge the people that didn't want to do it themselves. I think that is a fair price. My point was that even though it can be done, not everybody wants to tackle such installs. I guess he is labeling himself as the exception to the rule now.

i would like to think that there are more folks out there who would change their own exhaust rather than pay a couple hundred to have it done. I can't imagine someone owning an EVO and not WANTING to do the wrenching on it, atleast the elementary stuff.

Like I said, you would be surprized at how many people won't do these things themselves. That is the whole reason I started doing work on the side to make extra money. I had people complaining the performance shops were charging too much money to do installs so I started charging people less money then they would. Before I knew it, word got around and I was busy almost every night of the week doing various installs. It got to a point I got burned out working every night on somebody else's car and not my own. I will admit, you can make a good living on the side doing installs for people like this. There are more than you would think.

EDIT: I'm out, I gotta go to the physical therapist at 1 p.m. I'll be back later for more comedy. This should get interesting.

GSUjeff, I am just north of Atlanta by Hamilton Mill, when I finish the car hopefully in a couple months we should meet up sometime. I have a bunch of friends that are into DSM's and Evo's and we meet up once a month at the Varsity downtown. You are more than welcome to come. We would love to have you there. They are a great group of guys and everybody is more than willing to lend a helping hand when somebody else needs help. We also had the Import Showdown last year. We were the one's that organized that track day. We are having another track day in Oct if you are interested.

We are also renting a raod racing course soon for the hell of it. Should be fun. Come check it out. Import Showdown for next year should be very interesting to say the least.

Well, the question has become "can you or can't you?" not "can you if you're not in the hospital or you don't know how to put in a fuel pump or whatever" Simply can it be done and the answer is yes. No, not everyone is inherently capable of the undertaking, but if you were to set out with that as your goal, then you could meet it if you were willing to do what needed to be done.
