I try to blip the gas to rev match when I downshift...but when coming to a stop I always just brake.

I learned to downshift from the start so it has become just the way I drive everyday. But when racing I use the heal-toe.

But like people said, if done properly there won't be any transmission problems.

Doesn't the manual say to down-shift when slowing down, it even tells you what rpms are safe and whats too high. I usally match revs which defeats the engine braking thing, I guess it's just habit. I only heal toe for slower corners.

Was taught to always be in gear.... so I'm always downshifting, have been for many years.

This isn't true...... coasting in gear in EFI cars actually uses less gas than idling where gas is still used to keep the motor spinning. ....

Never heard that downshifting was bad for daily driving when performed correctly...

Interesting question...where is the poll when its necessary? Hiding on that "which VOLK rims should I buy" thread that is started everyday I bet!!

down shift using heel/toe to match rev will put much less stress on the clutch ans synchro. i use it during spirited driving.

I always rev-match/downshift and only brake when going from 2nd gear to a stop. Cause 1st gear is usually too high to make it worth while.

Brake followed by heel toe -- depending on what gear I'm in.
