best places to drive, test your skills
Don't know how everyone will feel about posting an actual road but Rt. 47 in the Catskills of NY (26 miles of mountain twisties from Claryville to Big Indian) is by far my favorite road to unwind on. Most of the road follows either the Neversink River or the valley floor formed by Slide Mountain. In the autumn it looks like the road is on fire from all of the colorful leaves on the hardwood trees.
As an unposted county road the speed limit is 55mph.
Since the road was washed out this past spring by a flood and consequently rebuilt to very nice standards it is even better than before.
Look out for deer, bear, and other smaller woodland creatures.

YES>>>ALWAYS GO TO THE TRACK
But.... when you live in the mountains above town and there is two ways to town. the first being the way that every sunday driver, soccer mom and SUV go and second being a very fun road in a way more remote location with nearly no one on it, and you have to go up and down everyday. Sometime you are going to take the touge and its only natural to push it a bit, I mean we do own EVOs. Anyways, I think if you are gonna push it, the touge is a lit better then the main strip- where most of the people with imports (rice or not) go, because on the main strip there is cops and a lot of people compared to the touge. On the touge, there is usually no one.
BUT>>>LIKE I SAID UP TOP
THE TRACK IS THE BEST AND SAFEST

I have done lot's of speeing over the years on winding mountain roads, some of it far too aggressive for my own safety and probably other peoples safety. I am not making this point to be self rightous. I am making this point to say that once I started to go too the track, I realized how far under the cars capabilites I was, an how much I had to learn about driving fast - and I had some crazy moments on the street.
Really, there is nothing like turning it loose on a road course. Try it and you will never feel the same about driving fast on the street.

Wow. thanks for that map. I have to check that place out soon.
question: Is that one way road? If not is there any place like that (one way road) ?
I never street race where there is many cars, traffic, bad road condition, ricers....
I like going to mountains where there is no traffic in early morning... anyways
keep the posts coming up. I know there is track but driving in public roads is
different feeling.
But I have never been on track so I dont know how that feels...
