Different oil filter

Soo i went to brad benson mitsu yesterday to pick up a oil filter. i asked for a evo 8 mr oil filter, and he gave me a oil filter with the part number MZ690116.

so i drain all the oil out of my car, then i take off the oil filter. i notice it has a different part number and looks a little different. The part number says MD356000. the gasket looks a little thicker on the MD then on the MZ.. soo now i have no other choice then to try the MZ oil filter. It went on fine and isnt leaking at all.

Just wondering what you guys think i should do. should i just leave it for another 3,000 untill the next oil change. Or go get the MD oil filter that came out of my car. car seems to be running fine no problems at all.

thxs for the help sorry for my newbness lol.

I would ask them what the difference in the part numbers are. But if all it had was a thicker gasket and it went on fine, you should be alright. But I would check with mitsh just for piece of mind. I use the K&N so I dont know the exact filter differences.

mitsu changed the filter. The one you got from bradbanson is the one for the evo now. I have been using that no problem.

The K&N is 12.90 at my local Advanced Auto. I'm sticking with stock which was like $7.00 including an oil drain sealing ring.

stock filter is the best one.. and there have been many studies showing you do more damage to your motor by changing the oil earlier than 5000 mi, unless the motor see's severe duty... oil is alot better than it used to be...

So you can do more damage to your engine by changing out oil early? How so?

Changing your oil can by no means be "harmful" to your engine. It may take the rings a little longer to seat or something, but it's not going to "damage" your engine. Only on cars that use dino or some other kind of break in oil, can an engine be damaged by changing it early.

i'm guessing this is your first oil change if so, you had the OE filter used in Japan. it is much better than the MZ. the MD is still available in markets other than the US.

Anyone try the new Power Enterprises oil filter? It has a built in trash magnet which is pretty cool but its kinda pricey at 17 bux a filter.

I can't speak for all aftermarket filters (because no real comparison seems to have been done), but I personally would stick wth the mitsu filters. I have seen and helped repair damage attributed to using inferior filters to one evo engine already. Not fun.
