To turn the evo to a sleeper, you need to-
1) Debadge
2) take off the wing
3) take out the hood cause the vents
4) paint the intercooler or hide it somehow
5) take out a big hammer and bang those fender flares in
6) paint the brembo or swap them out
7) put sheep skin seat covers over the recaros
by just taking out the wing won't do it.
seriously if you only take the wing out, the whole balance of the the look will be way off, very aggressive front end with a gay rear end...its like a tiger with a cat a$$.

i do agree with you on the point of it being personal preference....and every one has the right to have and opion...remember opions are like *******s...everyone has one. but my preference is that i think that an EVO looks naked with out the wing on it.....

I have had mine off for like 2.5 yrs.
And I think my car handles just fine. Like I say once you get use to some thing it becomes a non issue.
But then again I dont take mine to the track and do 120 mph corners

4. i was thinking a painting it black like my car.

your right though the frontend will look pretty agressive. but ehh..it's ok. when your side by side no one will see haha.
Should've just bought a Lancer and turbo it yourself. But doubt what you are asking will work.

As for removal, watch out for the plastic clips, I pulled too hard and made a bump in my trunk. The body shop fixed it when it got painted though.

Well without the wing, the car looks like a rental. Also why did you get the car with the wing if you are going to take it off anyway? You know that the wing is an option and you have the right to tell the dealer to take it off and save yourself the money.
