Cool Picking up my new EVO tonight!

I'm very excited. I'm picking up my new EVO VIII tonight. Purchased an 05 tarmac black without SSL. Got it for 29.4k. I'm trading in my 02 S2000 and 91 Integra. I only had the S2000 3 months and thought I'd like it, but it just isn't for me. No torque, grew to dislike the color (yellow), and also realized that I'm not really a convertible guy. Not a fan of lots of wind and sun I guess. Car hanlded nice, but just become somewhat boring to drive after a few weeks. My previous car was a black 2000 Hardtop Vette with 456rwhp that ran 10.9 in the 1/4 mile, so I guess that didn't help. The Vette was a money pit, so I sold it and figured I'd get a cheaper sports car, but the S2000 just did nothing for me. I have always loved the EVO, I've driven a few, so I figured I would give up the "sports car/beater car" lifestyle for a while and just have one nice new car like a normal human being. EVO is probably the best car I've ever driven besides my Vette. Amazing handling response, awesome motor, and a great driving position. Plus, with some all-season tires, it's a very practical all-year car. Hardest thing is that I'm saving to buy a condo so I need to keep it stock for a while. But I also want to keep the 10yr/100k mile warranty, so that is good motivation to keep the motor stock at least.

I know a regular catback shouldn't void the warranty, but would a full turbo back exhaust void it? How about a re-flash of the ECU? Just curious, I won't be buying anything until next year. -thanks

Congrats. Welcome to the Evo ranks. Keep it stock. It's great as-is.

First bit of advice is to search for such elementary questions before asking.

The number one answer is that it depends on the dealer, but generally they frown upon a full TBE and especially a flash, which is now detectable on 05s. I was allowed a cat-back and panel filter without hassle.

well first off i came from an m3 background, so somewhat similar to your vette. one thing ill tell you now that you will miss is the low end torque...the evo is still a fun *** car to drive i love it everyday. but gas is rising so fast that i can enjoy it like i would like to. so just some food for thought. CONGRATS onthe car

I talked to the regional rep at mitsu and asked them (not the local service mgr). They say bolt on's would be fine. A full exhaust with a high flow cat (no check engine lights - CEL). They also told me that a piggy back would be OK if I didn't cut any wires. So, I went with Vishnu. I got the signature full exhaust adn an Xede... beyond that I might have a thing or two added. It is kinda up to the local shop and the Mitsu rep. They decide how much they will alow.

Congrats on the purchase. I still have a warranty, I guess the dealer didn't care about the turbo back. I'm sure each dealer is different though.

congrats...my dealer gives me no problems with my catback, but he says as soon as i touch the cat or the downpipe, my drivetrain warranty is history.

Thanks to everybody for the warm welcome and the warranty advice. I think I'll definitely try to get in touch with a regional Mitsu rep before I do anything major. Vishnu was on the top of my list to order parts from, I may check out Pruven as well since they're only about 15 minutes from me.

Burningmoney97, I thought about keeping the 91 integra, but it's going to need some maintenance soon (brakes, struts, etc) and I didn't feel it was worth keeping. It also costs me $80/month in insurance I would rather save. Plus I have a nice winding backroad commute to work and the EVO will be more fun everyday.
