Evo in the snow?

So my friend as well as myself is in the market for a vehicle. He is most likely going to buy an 06 Range rover sport hse and I of course, an Evo . It really is a badass looking suv.You can also, for an extra 13g's get the supercharged model that has 390hp , 20 inch rims and a suspension upgrade that uses air to level out the truck when it is leaning on a hard turn. Msrp is 70k for the sc model and 56k for the one that is in his price range.

Anyways the other day I half sarcastically said, why don't you just get an evo.Him, who is not a carnut like most of us us replied by saying are you crazy, what will I do in the snow. I quicky informed him that the Evo is an AWD rally car more than adequate in the snow. I even went as far as to say its as good as the range in those conditions Now obviously I was stretching some with that claim but I was making sure I got my point across. At that point we got into a little argument about just how good the Evo was in the snow, arguing about how well you could get around in different levels of snow and conditions etc.

So my question is just how well can the evo perform in the snow? How much snow in your driveway before your gonna have a hard time getting it out? Also compared to some Suv's as well as the range rover, which is obviously in a league of its own and not a realistic comp , how does the Evo match up?

I think the Range will outperform the Evo in the snow. My dad had a 90's Range Rover and that thing was unstoppable in the snow. Alot of it depends on the type of tires you have, if you go cheap you wont have much traction.

My 4x4 Durango does better in the snow, but (with a set of all seasons) I've never had a problem in the snow with the Evo. Just don't try it with the stock Advans - they're like ice skates.

I have never felt more confident in the snow than I do in my evo. What really makes it easy to drive is the great throttle response and tight steering in combination with the AWD. The only problem the evo has in the snow is with braking. The ABS system is far too sensitive for snow and essentially disables the brakes in snowy and icey conditions. Other than that, with a dedicated set of snow tires the evo is every bit as capable as any other vehicle in the snow. The only exception may be in very deep snow, but typically the snow doesn't get that deep. And your comment about the evo being better in the snow than the Range Rover is probably true for light snow. SUV's are top heavy and are not very responsive. In light snow where the extra ride height is not an advantage the Evo would probably perform better.

the evo is very good in snow if you have the right tires. get a set of bridgestone blizzaks and your set! i drove mine during a winter in Denver and it held up very nice. AWD is awesome in cars. whenever i would go to the mountains to ski, i would see numerous audis going faster than normal traffic and most of the time they were passing suvs!

Yeah thats a fact. Im not sure that there is an suv that can outperform the range rover in the snow. Hummer maybe? Well the LR3 ( land rover ) can of course but there in the same family.

you mean it's not. the stock tires are more for summer so you'll need to either use winter or all season tires to drive comfortably in snow. i have no experience yet, but hearing from many other members' im sure the feeling is closer to ice skating with your casual shoes if you can imagine - not fun. it has a lot to do with driver's skill, so if you've got some, you can ensure a victory over your friend in a snow drag haha. personally i like range rovers, but right now a sedan is what im looking for and for what the evo is priced, you save over your friend quite a few $$ good for mods. have fun, and more importantly, drive safely

man who knows where i could post a video of an evo in the snow and how to do it
heres a link http://media.putfile.com/byTweakDSM check it out, as someone said on the stock tires the evo sucks i drove mine on it just couldnt get on it, or would slide all over had to shift at like 3000 rpms or lower, but with good winter or all season tires the evo handles a lot better then most cars

you are right, i have the blizzaks 50 and i was passing everything on the road, during a snow storm that we had here in pa (around 12") i drove all over the place, uphill, downhill, stops, turns you name it i never slid or lost traction, off course when i wanted to the car did and that was the most fun i had in a car ever (scared the **** out of my wife) off course on an empty parking lot. the funny part was how i never lost control even in a slide you put the tires straight and there you go off the slide and i am no experinced driver.

i don't know about the rover, but the evo with snow tires is as close as it can be to the best. i love this car.
