I have the Harrison obd scan tool. I've had it for over 2 years now and it works great...and the price is reasonable.

My main reason for this purchase is to read engine timing.

it's a freaking awesome piece of equipment. I've been using it for almost 2 years and I love it. It has saved me countless hundreds of dollars by allowing me to check error codes and repair things myself (small things to large).

The dyno features are kinda cool, and are as accurate as a dyno.... that is to say, that there are differences between dynos and as long as you run the same stretch of road and enter accurate ambient data (temp, humidity, baro pressure, altitude) you can get decent before and after results. My auterra reads about 1% lower than the dynojet that I've tested on.

It reads the timing that the ECU reads- I'm not 100% sure that it gives you crank timing.

I too have it...very nice software. The guys at Auterraweb.com seem to keep the software up-to-date too.

Feel free to ask any specific questions.

Can you read knock with it or only timing?

Can you read a variable such as timing retard or do you have to read a log to see what happened?

The Evo ECU may give different info, but I don't believe the Auterra shows knock. From what I've read, the Evo ECU is so sensitive that you'd know you were knocking before you could read it on the screen anyway

For timing it give the value the ECU reads, so if you know what the stock timing is supposed to be you can figure out the timing adjustments at your RPM/Throttle position.

this past weekend I used it to check my intake air temp and my coolant temp to see if a new air duct was working. I've cleared hundreds of codes and in most cases used the code info to repair a problem (or I already knew what the problem was but I needed a cleared code). I used the speedo and tach functions to re-install my gauge needles after I took tehm off to change the color of my instrument cluster. kept and eye on short and long term fuel trims when I was working with my eManage .... lots of stuff.

It doesn't on mine, but then the OZ's ECU doesn't record that info IIRC. You can check the autrerra website, though.
