eratic exhaust tone
eratic exhaust tone
Does anyone else experience an erratic exhaust tone after the car has been running for a while?
the sound is kinda like its normal rumble but with pauses in tone, and its erratic.
other ways to explain the sound would be a rumble, misfire, plugged up pipe..Im sure this could be normal but lately its been very noticeable. Keep in mind this car is stock with 2k miles, ran 100oct mxedwith octane levels peeking at 97oct.This was only done 2-3 times.I have no check engine light but still seemed a bit concerned. I was hoping some one could take a listen during turbo cool down, if they could take a quick listen and report back?Don't really get out much and have no friends with evo's in the area. Plus we all know how hard it is for the dealer to fire one up even though credit score is 7+ with a bundle of cash in hand!

I can't even remember what my stock exhaust sounded like. But I would get some real low level burbles and what not even before I had my cams, this being with my TBE though.
I would think if the car still runs as strong as it always has, and there are no codes, that you're good to go. It might be due to the fact that the car is so damn rich with stock tuning and your exhaust is hot after being run for a while, that you're getting some backfire in the tubes.
I dunno, I'm a car newb, but that scenario makes sense to me.

makes sence
I have an '03 with 27k and stock exhaust.
After the car is warmed up the exhaust sound is a bit erratic -- never smooth and consistent.
It's subtle though, so the untrained ear wouldn't notice anything out of the ordinary.
To me it doesn't sound bad at all. It's not smooth and consistent, but it's always a low rumble.
