For the lucky owners of Evo.... any disappointments?

As much as i want the car, i can't afford then ridiculously insane markup. But with this i have the luxury to wait and rethink. Before finally deciding on getting the EVo, i thought about the IS300 and G35 coupe. Now the thoughts about it surfaced after i sat in the Evo at the dealership. Its an awesome car to look at, but then all this about changing new tires every 10 months, the pit pass, and the so-so interior (like the AC buttons, it suks major @$$).
So what i'm wanting to ask is: For those who has the car, its there anything that you feel is disappointing, or hope that it could've been better? Give us a review here, it would help people like me thats gonna buy a car. I'm not exactly rich here, i'm 20 and buying the car would mean 50% of my montly income.

Anything would help, thanks

I think the IS300 and G35 coupe should be considered in a different category. The Subaru STI would be a more comparable vehicle to consider. I think the question that you might want to answer first is whether or not you want a hardcore performance vehicle or a luxurious sporty car. Both have downsides and upsides.

The STI will be more expensive than i think i can afford, thats why i chose those 2 other cars. I want both performance and luxury, it turns out that the Audi S4 probably has it, but its in then 40s range. Evo's still winning my heart, but since i can't test drive, i need to know how it drives, the comfort in the car, the comfort of front and back passengers, the fluidity of the transmission etc etc.

Hey Jay, r u gettting to EVo?

Pit pass is a seperate maintence of the car, its also required for salespeople to have a contract with you on it before you get the keys to the Evo. I heard its around $700 or so. Not sure if its required, but knowing i'm not good at fixing cars or have a lot of knowledge in the maintenace department, i figure i might need it

If you want performance and luxery...no doubt, get the 6-speed G35. I wouldn't consider the IS300 a performance car. Maybe you could look into a used low mileage S4. Those would also be in your price range.

i dont know where you're gonna get the evo for around msrp in the bay area. well...all the south bay dealers marking it up to 40k, so the evo might even be out of your price range anyway. also...driving around in frisco might not be so fun in an evo unless you like driving in city streets with a hardcore performance car. this is the one situation i would consider buying a G35 over an evo. but if you plan to take it out of the city, by all means get the high strung monster (thats if you can find it in your price range of course).

Hi,

Just a note from a seasoned driver. Never ever buy a car without driving it. Particularly the EVO 8. It has unique handling and ride characterics and you may not like either.

Well i know a fleet manager in one of the dealerships, he said he could get me the Evo with a $5,000 markup vs. the $10,000. **But if i wait a little bit, he said he could definitely get me one for really close to msrp** so i'm guessing it would still be in my price range.

A lot of people said G35 any reasons i should hear?

It is a nice all around car. Good power, styling, interior, brakes, and handling. It is not as extreme as the Evo, it is a better daily driver performance car.

Like you, I also can't decide which car I want to spend my money on - I'm stuck between the Evo, STI and the 350z. All seem like great cars with ups and downs.
I was about to purchase an IS300 about a year ago but retracted at the last minute due to my financial situation at the time.
I can see where you are coming from about wanting the best of both worlds. Unfortunately it doesn't come without a price
I've decided that luxury is not something I can afford right now and I'd rather have something that is nimble and quick. Thus, my three choices.

This sounds pretty easy to me... G35.

If you're worried at all about ride, luxury and how nice the interior is, then the Evo is NOT for you. Get the G35 coupe. As stated by others here, its a much more well-rounded car for someone like yourself. If you're not going to USE the performance of the Evo, which means taking it to the track or serious, hardcore backroad driving, then its a total waste. You'll regret getting an Evo. It's a harsh, highly-strung, twitchy, narrowly-focused rocket, while the G35 is a relatively plush, luxurious and stylish sports car that you'll appreciate every time you get in it. Leave the Evos to the speed freaks that don't care about how the climate control buttons feel, but WILL appreciate impeccable handling and power delivery that only come into play while driving at 8/10's and above. Since i'm 20, having a turbo and havin' fun is on top of the list. The G35 might make be for older people or the rich, i dress nice, but not like hellin' ballin' or nothin'. Dont' misunderstand, i race and like the thrill of driving fast.

One thing thats its just holding me back, is maybe an year or 2 later, the Evo starts rattling or wind noises and stuff, thats when i don't want to have to look back and said "i shoulda got the G35.. " Don't want that happening, but for now i'm stickin' to Evo...

So anyone who owns an Evo, give us a review of the car!
thanks
