Launch?
What is this I keep hearing about "launching"? I presume a fast take off from a stand still
? Then I hear how bad it is for the EVO. Someone give me a quick explanation here.
Thanks

instead of just being an as*hole why dont u just make this a short thread and answer his fuc*in question..
anyways launching the evo means when you're totally stopped and you bring the rpm's high enough and then basically let the clutch out really quick to "launch" the evo i.e. get going quickly so that you could possibly spin the tires (difficult to do with awd and sticky tires) and get a good 60' time at the drag strip (which our cars were not made for). The main reason its bad for our cars is since the tires won't spin very easily, the force either gets taken by your clutch or your transfer case. Personally I would rather fry my clutch because you'll have to replace it anyways but a transfer case is very expensive to replace. However, if you use too much clutch then your launch will be crappy and your 60' time will not be too impressive. Its a touchy game and thats why so many people are constantly perfecting it in evo's, however again its a known fact that the evo IS NOT A DRAG RACING CAR and was never meant to be...so go autocross or something..oh and dont mind a lot of the people on this forum who are dicks..they're just angry that younger people got nice cars now of days but when they were young they had to work 40 hours a week walk up hill both ways to school blah blah etc etc. I'm 22 I'm a full time school teacher and I dont care who has an evo as long as you're safe. Good luck.

It is the word used to describe when you takeoff form a a standstill position. >I.e a drag race.
It is usually accomplished by reving up to 5500 or so and dumping(letting off fast) or slipping(more gradual) the clutch causing you to" launch" forward, hence the word.

Maybe I am the only person who will be getting an EVO that doesn't need to race anyone. I am sure there are catch phrases in things I do that you wouldn't understand as well

You think owners of Mercedes', Lexus', and BMW's don't ever launch or know what it means? Do you not know that M3s own several SCCA classes due to their racing prowess? Each of them launches at the beginning, I guarantee you that...
Get off your high horse you ***. Some people have a life outside of cars.
