MR Sliced through Vettes (and a Panoz) like a hot knife in butter on Track!
I am making a habit of this! Took to Hallett Racing Circuit yesterday. In the High Speed Touring group there were 20 cars. 5 of them were advanced drivers, on stickies, and were Vettes (1 Z06) and even one Panoz - open wheel w/32V Cobra motor.
My reason for this post is not to brag on the domination of the track, but rather the hard work it was getting everything in order to make it happen.
Hallett, known for it's abuse on brakes, reminded me to never show up without a complete brake fluid flush. I had to retire early from a couple sessions as my fluid boiled and my brakes went. This was hard when battling the Z06 and then having to pit after I passed him.
My right rear was very loose, causing great amount of oversteer. This made for WRC Speed Vision entertainment around the U-Turn at turn 10.....I drove the car like a WRC Champion on power, through the turn, at 90 degrees! Awesome. I was having so much fun...........drawing the spec miata crowds and other race groups to gather at the turn to watch me...................but at the expense of fast lap times.
Quick change of the camber, brake fluid, and new Hoosiers................I was F1 the rest of the day........making quick work of the Z06 and other Vettes. So much faster than earlier in the day, the Vette guys came over to see just what the EVO MR was all about! Cool guys.
For those of you still reading this. My best pass of the day was when a C4 Vette did all he could to block me. He was not going to let a 4 banger pass him. On each of the straights for two laps I was weaving back and forth in his mirrors....trying to get the corner workers to waive him a passing flag. But, they didn't. So, I did some of my best work yet! Went way wide on a straight to get around him as he crowded the center line............dove under and next to him into a hairpin.............I out braked him into the corner..........and I had the inside line and was able to leave him. I was estatic. Picture perfect text book pass.
Anyway, I know I need a big brake kit.....not just a better version of our already stellar brakes, but a huge kit worthy of racing. Who has the best deals? AA
