Buying Evo in another state
Buying Evo in another state
Someone told me that I will still have to pay the sales tax for my home state even though I'm buying my Evo in a different state. Now to me that doesn't sound right. Wouldn't I just be paying the sales tax for the state in which the car was bought? I guess I've always figured that all along so I didn't even think it was a big deal. Some advice from those that know more or have exerpience in this would be helpful
You pay sales tax wherever you register the car.
So buying it out of state or not, when you register and title the car in your home state, you will pay sales tax there.
Check your local Department of Revenue website for more information.
<- someone who has purchased three cars out of state, including buying my (former) e46 M3 from Alabama over the internet.

You can generally take out a loan for more than the price of the car to give you cash back to pay your sales tax.
Short answer, yes, if you are buying this car (or any car) you generally need to budget the $2k - $3k sales that the government is going to rape you for...

LoL. I can answer any of your questions very specifically considering we're in the same state, although Wildwood is on the other side of the state from KC.
You see my other thread about Evo's available here in KC MO at MSRP? I can help you get one, if you are interested...
According to Mapquest its 4-hrs 11 minutes door to door...

Thanks for the offer jedinite. But my Evo ships tomorrow and I'm expecting to pick it up on Friday (Rally red - no roof, big wing). I already have plane tickets booked (refundable just in case) to go down and pick it up near Ft. Worth. It's at MSRP too of course, wouldn't have it any other way.
I'll give you a yell if anything goes sour though
BTW, sales tax is going to be about $3800 total! Really hoping we can just tack that as an extra amount onto the loan because I really don't want to deal with that.

How is your sales tax 3800?! It should be around 6%..which would make it around $1800..plus another 100 or so for title/registration fees. I would think it would be 1900-2000 total in most states.
Missouri calculator is here:
http://www.dort.state.mo.us/mvdl/motorv/calc.shtml
We pay state sales tax, because Andrew is in a certain county in St. Louis he also pays city sales tax. I assume he's saying both taxes together add up to $3800. If not, he can check his math using the calculator I linked above
My local taxes and fees (from the calculator) amount to $2101. Which I won't have to pay thanks to our state's sales tax credit program.

For your parameters reports $2484.75.
You are paying $35k for the car?
It's not based on the amount of the loan, only the purchase price of the car from the sales documentation.
If I run it same location $31k, it returns $2201.75.
Thanks. I couldn't get it to run in IE, I could click away at the button and nothing would happen. Java is the devil!
No as you said it will be closer to the $31,000. Not as bad as I figured it out to be though thankfully. Already contacted the dealership and we will get that tacked on the amount of the loan.
