Toluene

I just read in SCC that raw toluene is cancerous. I figured but never really thought too much about it when i was breahthing vapor in when i was pouring it and/or getting it on my hands. I'm sure it takes a lot of exposure but i use it kind of a lot. Just thought i'd do my part and let any one who uses it and didnt already know about it. Be careful kids and wear gloves and eye protection and a respirator. And don't try huffing it!

Most solvents are harmful to you, even ethanol

Breathing the vapors now and again wont hurt you, but you should try and minimize exposure. Trust me, I am a chemist

you're fine. a little vapor and playing around in some carcinogens won't hurt you...... unless you have a family history of liver, bladder or intestinal cancer. I used to play with benzene all day long during my chem years at NAU, despite that it was carcinogenic. I was a lab TA and did research and learned what chemicals you really don't want to get on your hands like 20M NAOH. The reality is, most chemicals in large quanities will give "someone" cancer eventually and the government wants to make sure you know that. And then there's always the saying,"What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger."

Why do ppl make such a big deal about toluene? When i use to extract fullerenes/bucky ***** from "soot", i run thru several gallons....everyday. Its so strong smelling, you can smell even the minute amounts. You will know not too breath too much of it after a whiff or 2
