wow if i did that to someone's car, i would have to let them punch me in the face. that seriously sucks!
HELL NO!! that deserves no..............obligates a punch in the face! AT LEAST~!
Just to play devil's advocate here just because it's running fine now doesn't mean you're out of the woods. You could have cracked a lifter or just damaged something very slightly. It may drive fine for a while then boom.
Like someone else said do a compression and leakdown test. Pull the valve cover as well and just peak around. Better to be safe then sorry. Hopefully though there is no damage

This is also a common problem on the e36 m3, so I've heard... There's no phyiscal lockout from 2nd - 1st. Whether thats true or not, some kid at my old high school blew his entire motor from suppoosedly doing a 2nd - 1st.

Same thing happened to me... I used to have an 01 e46 M3.... my friend shoved it in 1st going about 45 and dropped the clutch.
The back tires were hopping off the ground, the clutch was fried and needed replacing... BMW did it for free. What a pain in the @#$, sucks cuz now I never let anyone drive my evo.... (except my buddy 4-BNGR)
