I thought my car was dead!

So i let my buddy take the evo for a drive (because he let me beat the hell out of cbr600 for a lil bit) So anyways we were driving down the road and then he started to get on it in 1st he grabbed 2nd, and then instead of going into 3rd he threw it into 1st. I swear to god i seen the tack spin around 3 times. I thought my car was ****ed. Well, everything seems to be working properly. Just thought I'd let you fellows know my exciting point of the night.

Did that at the track with my DSM once. I was logging with my safc and I don't even remember how high it went. It was some insane number.

it is amazing what these motors will take

I find that hard to believe. Yes I believe that he put it into first, but I can't believe that someone would ever feel the need to slam into a gear that hard -- it's never necessary. Going back into first when you're ready for third takes A LOT of force.

That's a common problem around the ls1 world. Often times the only damage is some bent pushrods though. But, since the evo is a totally differet valvetrain design, does anyone even know what would usually give first on a DOHC?

A thrown rod comes to mind. Or because its a known weakness, a snapped or slipped timing belt leading to bend valves.
