For those who have gone from WRX/STi to EVO... opinion needed
Same here. Came from a Cobb Stage 2 2004 STi to a 2005 Evo 8. I even had ECUTek on the STi. I am very pleased with the change to the Evo. It looks like the Evo has more of a potential to upgrade with minimal cost. The STi was a very akward car to mod. Even headers was a problem with the STi.
[QUOTE=ryansti]hmm no offense but some of you guys need to catch up on your facts. Stock block sti's cant make over 500whp without breaking? lol
why did the 05's and up get detuned for pinging! there was a guy on here a few months ago that gave a good review on his evo thats been tracked many times and had over 100k miles on stock motor and still running stong who knows how many miles he has now but i never seen or heard of any sti motor that has been near 50k miles maybe cause the 04 detination to the motor and yes the 05's still has the pinging on stock motor check out iwsti.com around page 5 or 6 and you will see a guy talking about his 05 stock engine with pinging/detination going on! now you think that you can tune the stock aluminum block for 200hp more or even 150hp more and be ok! at least the evo dont have engine problems but yeah sti is a cool car i even check it out before getting my 2nd evo

The 4G63 block is far stronger. It also is pruven to hold tons of power, and be reliable if taken care of. I sold my STi after iwas making weakly trips back to the dealer with ECU problems. It was a great car, but we know which is the better car. EVO

Fair enough. Ok, for you...STi= EVO!~!!! One time only.
I'd be happy with each. As a matter of fact, I'd like to own both, right now! I'd turn the STi into a rallycross and daily driver, and the EVO into an autocross and track monster

maybe something big will happen with the 2007 sti because they did not do anything but detune it in the past few years that its bin out not like the evo theres not much they can do with that engine i will not say its maxed out because i dont know but i know its more maxed out then the 4g63t there goal for the us market was for low end tq and thats all its got
I haven’t owned a Subaru, but my friend has the WRX with mods, VF22 turbo, dyno at 300whp, etc. I love his car, however, I’ve finally gone past his power level very easily with few mods (and the car wants more.) Many people have already said it here, but the EVO does respond to mods very easily. You can get power without much fuss.
People have also stated “thumbs down” for Mitsubishi service. That’s also a big negative for me and could sway my decision towards an STI, some years down the line. There’s no telling what the state of Mitsubishi will be in the future…
Not much else to say… everybody has made good points.
I think all of us (both EVO and Subie owners) appreciate all three (WRX, STI, and EVO) for what they are. It really comes down to personal taste, and what you intend to use the car for.
Each has completely different personalities, however, in terms of handling, the EVO is “spot on” and the 4G63 can take a hell of abuse. And as for modding is concerned, I think you know it’s possible to go as far as your pocket book can take you with the EVO. If you’re planning on heavy modding… the EVO is the way to go.
My 2 cents.

I remember reading an article in some tuner mag last year about the 4g63. Said it was the greatest 4 banger the world has ever seen. You could look at it side ways and it'd gain an extra 10hp! Gave me chills after i read it since i was about to own one
this is a good read. refering to what someone said before about "safety mods"? What did he mean? I've never heard of this before. My car is fairly stock and it will be for awhile but I am looking into precaution mods (like maybe the FD needs them) if anyone's willing to let me know what they are?
I also have a history with subarus. WRXs, STis, swapped 2.5 RSs... and I must say I love the EVO more than any car i've EVER driven, including my singled 6spd supra.
