Actually, it would be a GT, cause the JDM version w/o AYC is a GT. but GSR sounds better and is easier for all of us cause that is how we refer to it.

AND YES WE SHOULD CONSIDER THE EVO 8 AND GT MODEL, becasue it has ACD but no AYC and it has 5 speed, so our so called "GSR" is actually a "GT" model in Japan, please we got to be correct about this, evo is japanese car, and I am proud of my country's technology, a lot of american's are driving my country's car. The GSR now has 6 speed acd and ayc, all the goodies and there is no more MR edition in japan now. MR is only the limited edition of EVOVIII

I’ve been into this discussion before as well and it’s like banging your head against a brick wall on this forum.

The closest thing to say in that case is to refer to them as USDM GSR’s

One other major thing about true GSR’s is that they have “ACC” as in Automatic Climate Control with an LCD screen, that has never been in any other version of the EVO since the EVO1.

Edit: Forgot another crucial thing, all true GSR’s are RHD as well

Why not sell them other 4 cars for a EVO IX GSR

Then you'll have an MR AND GSR

So then you can merge both and say you have a

2005+2006=4011
VII+IX=VIIIX
GSR+MR=GSRMR

=

4011 EVO VIIIX GSRMR

Now thats cool!

ok all bull**** aside:

whats a GSR?

GSR is usually the higher-spec model (discounting the MR)

Usually the RS and GSR are the only models available. Japan no longer has an MR, only RS, GSR, and GT.

In the US you guys got RS, MR and the 'middle' specification whcih would usually be the 'GSR'.

who really cares if it's not badged a GSR? They aren't badged with VIII or IX numeration either unless you live in the U.K. Who cares if it's not a real Japan-Spec GSR? if that was the case then no USDM Evo's would be real Evo's would they?

For all intents & purposes, here in the US market, if you don't have an Evolution VIII MR or RS, you DO have a GSR model.

Just for fun, contact a US dealer & ask them to look up a part for you: Mitsubishi's Computerized Parts Search Program (CAPS) lists 3 different models of the Evolution VIII (see screen capture below.) For example, after giving the program the VIN of my '03 (non-SSL: no such thing for the 2003 model year), it shows that the VIN entered is for an Evolution GSR.

SSL is an option package for the Evolution, NOT a production model.

I was just curouis why they dont even come from the factory with the "evolution VIII" badge across the back. Does this mean that it really isnt an evo 8 just a plain evolution?

I think the reason why people called it GSR because of the culture that we have in US about the Japan's culture about cars, such as Evo GSR in Japan is the normal Evo that we have here. Of course there is a difference between the USDM Evo and JDM GSR as most of us know.

It is just a way to call our cars this way. Nothing ego.

Although when I go to a Mitsubishi dealer, I won't mention the name GSR as I already knew the salesman does not even know there is a MR edition for Evo.

sir yes sir!!

eventhough we weren't born in Japan, we know a bit about the evo and gsr....actually, Mitsu has been using GSR for Lancers since 1980, i know coz i used to own two versions of GSR! we only use GSR (to repeat what others have been saying all along)to easily identify amongst ourselves here on the board between MR and RS...
