Crap, I forgot what causes this, but I do know it has been discussed on this forum. Do a quick search for acd lights, and I think you'll find it. I believe dsm95hybrd made a thread concerning this, but I could be wrong.

u can turn the interior lights / running lights on , and the gauge will light up.

but if the headlight switch is set to the off position, the gauge lights should be off as well.

^ I have an 05 and mine is this way also: Lights off, gauge cluster is still on, but only when the key is in/car is on. Is it supposed to be this way? Thats what I assumed

Guys, I have a brand new untouched 2005 GSR w/SSL and this condition below in quotes is NORMAL on all EVOs including mine...don't worry about it.

It's the way Mitsubishi designed the gauge cluster system. There is a thread with someone describing how it was engineered this way but I don't have it bookmarked any longer....sorry.

My 03 has the cluster always on, day or night, headlights or not. Turns off when I remove key. I actually kind of like it, good for those mornings when lights aren't needed but it's just dim enough to be usefull.

instrument panel is always on if key is in....but not the sports gauge, only parking or headlights are on...
