I was in a similar situation, had $15k in damage but the threshold to total it was $18k, my car didnt have any major mechanical damage or frame damage so they simply repaired it and put me on the bus for 2 months (figuratively, couldnt work out rental reimbursement).
Also, did you go through a shop that Allstate referred you to? They're often more rigid about using aftermarket parts. All reputable shops guarantee their own work for the most part as well, I put in a 3rd party claim on my accident and did not use and a shop certified by that insurance company.
If financially you cant afford to take the hit and eat the cost difference for a new evo I'd say go to a different shop, ask around and shop your business around. As long as the subframe isnt twisted up badly and the damage is ahead of the struts the car will absolutely come back 100% if repaired properly. Otherwise, with the frame alignment tools that these shops should have they still come back perfectly straight. Its definitely a tough spot, good luck.

I'm not so sure that is true.. They are paying you for your loss.. How you decide to replace your loss is really up to you and if you don't want to repair it that is also up to you.

As long as you get the right shop to do the work there is no reason she wont be as good as new. Make sure that you pick the body shop for the work on your car...damn insurance companies would use macco if they could.

I dont understand. Almost 20k worht of damage and its not totaled. Is that just the first estimate. There should be some suppemental damage once they start repairs that will require an adjustment.
Also if not I would keep the 19k and part out the rest.03's are going for 20 to 23 anyways so you will be fine. As far as not being able to keep the money, I think that is inaccurate.

don't fix that ****. 20k, are you kidding? and you get to keep the car?
part it out, is the motor damaged? im sure you could trade the motor to someone like buschur for lots of parts for your new one.
whats your payoff?

as long as they write you the check, its your business what you do with it....however, if you want to keep the car and get money from them, they will deduct the value of the car from the check (ie,. if car is totalled and you still want it, they will deduct the scrap metal value of the car)....in your case since car is not a total you can do what you want with the money (at least in virginia you can, i don't know they law where you live)
also some states have a law about when the car has to be totalled....in Virginia, once the repair bill equals 90% of the value of the car, they have to total it
