Crashed! :(
Crashed my baby 3 weeks ago, story short, ended up hitting the median on the highway in the front left and sliding across 3 lanes over a curb!
Ended up in the shop with 19,400$ worth of damage, and 600$ short of being totaled, pretty ridicolous, insurance wont total the car even though its been in a major accident, never gonna drive the same, and has almost 20k worth of damage!
Allstate is great and all, but hard to negotiate with =P
Think im gonna take my 19k and just part the car out, can sell the whole interior, motor, intercooler, etc
oh well, just venting!

Your best bet is to find a shop that will replace the stock parts with aftermarket. Had the same thing happen to my eclipse and ended up with a better car than the one I wrecked. Sometimes replacement parts are cheaper than stock ones, might be something to look into.
Sorry to hear about your loss. I can't believe the insurance company wouldn't budge! I would have kicked in a panel or bashed in a headlight, its not too hard to get $600 dollars worth of damage to a car. Good luck.

Cant do that since they took pic's already!
Doubtful im gonna get another evo, anytime soon atleast, hehe. Will miss it but oh well.
I COULD replace things aftermarket, but the shop im working with doesnt want to take the chance of doing that (could make it sick..) since I would save so much money over what I've quoted, and the car would be completelly aftermarket therfore allstate will not guarentee the work.. lot of BS therfor the shop doesnt want to buy aftermarket parts other then that listed on the adjustment.

Put a decent size down payment on a BMW M3! Free general maintenance and car washes for 5 years will make up for the difference in price... almost... not really
But hey its an M3! There is only one way to go when you are buying a new car and that is upgrade or equal. Trust me if you downgrade, you will go crazy thinking about how great your old car was, i know i did.

If possible I would take the $19,400 settlement check and simply part out the car. You'll most likely surpass what you would have gotten on trade in. Ofcourse this is only feasible if you have something else to drive and a place to store the car while you part it. I was in a similar situation, had $15k in damage but the threshold to total it was $18k, my car didnt have any major mechanical damage or frame damage so they simply repaired it and put me on the bus for 2 months (figuratively, couldnt work out rental reimbursement).
Also, did you go through a shop that Allstate referred you to? They're often more rigid about using aftermarket parts. All reputable shops guarantee their own work for the most part as well, I put in a 3rd party claim on my accident and did not use and a shop certified by that insurance company.
If financially you cant afford to take the hit and eat the cost difference for a new evo I'd say go to a different shop, ask around and shop your business around. As long as the subframe isnt twisted up badly and the damage is ahead of the struts the car will absolutely come back 100% if repaired properly. Otherwise, with the frame alignment tools that these shops should have they still come back perfectly straight. Its definitely a tough spot, good luck.

Work auto body and there is nothing that the right tools, time, and money from insurance companies can't fix. You need to ask around to see who does the best work in your area and have them fix it. If they are good and know what they are doing then the car will be good as new if not better because of the paint they use. I work with PPG products and there paint is a hell of a lot better then factory paint. Also you can make your insurance company pay for a rental car while it is in the shop. good luck man let me know how it goes
