What so great about the AEM EMS

Is it better than a flash, can it tune your car better than a dyno flash.

I'm not exactly a tuner, so I don't understand

sorry for newbie question

yes and yes, you basically can control everything on the vehicle. almost right down to the a/c. for the EMS

extremely hard unless you know what you are doing. more chance of you f ing something up not knowing what u are doing.

also it will give u bout 15 horsepower over a flash. it only becomes necessary after 450 to 500 hp. where stock ecu/piggyback cannot support necessary engine functions.

Stick with a flash unless you are shotting for some high numbers. AEM EMS, along with other standalones, is gonna do a better job than a flash, but it does little compared to its cost ($2k for the unit + tuning costs... which can get expensive really quickly), it only gets you a little more power than a flash.

AEM'S website has a forum to discuss the EMS and I believe they have a download so you can see how the software works before you buy it.

If you like tuning and will keep on modding with a potential turbo upgrade I say go with the AEM from the start. Flashes are good but it will eventually pay for an AEM if you mod alot.

What? AEM EMS puts more than a "little power" down compared to a flash.

The AEM EMS has great potential in the right hands. Unfortunately, there are few tuners who are actually proficient enough with the AEM EMS to unlock its full potential. it's a tough system to learn and a lot of tuners don't even bother learning the ins and outs of it. IMO a few reflashes is cheaper than a AEM EMS and a new engine when you F something up because you don't know what you are doing.

Flashes work great and have a margin of safety built in. With the AEM EMS, you are the margin of safety. The computer does what YOU tell it to do whether its right or wrong.

IMO unless you are running a bigger turbo, stick with the reflashes or get a piggy back. Most members here will never mod their car enough to see the full benefit of running a stand alone ems.

read this article and you'll find out that they made about 300whp on a completly stock evo with the EMS, mbc(just to get rid of taper) and tuning. thats a "little more" than a flash

I must had said something wrong?

Not sure what you're trying to restate but in the end it all comes down to what he wants to do with the car. I don't think you see any flash car running 10 yet and there's $1500 reward .

There IS a flash car that ran 10 sec 1/4 mile.

Anyway, I stand corrected after reading the article. I guess if you have the money to get the EMS and plan on tuning the car a lot, it is not a bad option It all depends on what you want to do with the car and how much money you are willing to spend, I guess.

Thanks for the info guys, I have concluded that I realy don't need AEM EMS right now,

My modding process isn't going to require it for a few years, do to the lack of BIG $

I will be happy with a 400whp evo for awhile ( I HOPE!!! ), and that will take at least a year to achieve.
