Honda's are not built to bring mad performance to the streets... Look at any modded Honda, soon as they leave the light you can see a little puff a blue smoke coming from the tailpipe.. My GSX runs 12.5's with 133,000 miles on the stock internals...

This is true. My R was broken into and attempted stolen. Many of my friends with type R's have either had them stolen or vandalized. Most Type R owners are afraid to drive their cars to malls and to public places as a result.

But for what it is, the Type R is a great handling car. It's skid pad and slalom numbers are only a hair shy of what the Evo gets. The suspension is nice and solid. The car feels only slightly nose heavy at the limit. It does not understeer like most Front Wheel drive cars. The LSD up front does wonders for the cars corner exit speeds. Acceleration is good, if you happen to like cars you have to keep on the boil to keep em motivated. The interior is just as sparce and loud as the Evo. The ITR's hold their values very well. I sold mine after 3 years of ownership and 54000 miles for only $4k less than I bought it for.

But in the end, I sold my Type R to get an Evo.

If you want a track comparison of the 2 cars, wait till the middle of April. I'll be bringing my Evo out to the Type R Expo track day event. I originally signed up when I had an R, but since it is sold I will bring my new toy....if it ever arrives! It'll be my Evo and 79 Type R's in various states of tune.

That puff of blue smoke is not burning oil, if that's what you are alluding to. It's usually caused by a momentary rich condition caused by the ecu when it detects a quick full throttle stab.

Dude that the craziest thing I've heard since not going full throttle on the EVO's...

It is indeed oil burning.. My father owns a japanese auto repair shop and I see this occur every single day.. If it were rich, it would be black smoke, blue is bad, black is good... White, and ur f--ked..!!

I'm not saying that Japanese cars don't burn oil. Vehicles that are not properly maintained will burn oil. I'm sure your Dad sees lots of those. Cause he never sees healthy cars I'm sure. If it ain't broke....

And ALL engines will eat a certain amount of oil if pushed hard.

But it is common fact in the Honda enthusiast community that the puff is the momentary rich condition from the ECU.

And regardless of your opinion about the Evo throttle condition, there are already 3-5 people reporting that issue on this board. So either there are lots of people with a problem, or you are the only one who knows how to drive a car you don't yet own.

Dude, you're funny.... There is no way in hell (unless it freezes over) that BLUE smoke is from being rich... Blue is caused by oil burning... Like I said before, if it were rich, it would be black... Remember, oil burns blue, fuel burns black... Whoever informed you that the little blue smoke is because the ECU makes it rich is completely full of ****... But I love the EVO and so do you, so we are still best friends... hahaha

I threw in my $0.02 on the honda-tech forum.

Gotta be political about it, though.

That's how I've always thought about it, too.

That said, I've seen numerous Hondas with fart-cans on the rear absolutely covered in black soot... all around the exhaust and on the rear bumper... Kinda funny...

If you hang around hondas as much as I do, you will notice that the smoke is usually black, not blue....

When I would autocross my R, people would always come up to us asking about the smoke the puffs out upon launch....I never lost one drop of oil though is 55k miles, and 20-30 autocrosses.

but you are right, we like the Evo's on this board ....and to an extent I expected the anti Honda sentiment when I joined this side. But for the most part, I'm not brand specific and see the pluses and minuses of all cars. I drive around a 40 year old british car for example...some of the least reliable cars ever...but some of the most enjoyable IMO.

I posted at the honda site too....I've been a member there since day 1. "Cheeseman" is my aka...

Hey I love my type R...but it's true they are ridiculously expensive. But you can always get an Ls engine and turbocharge it. That can boost you up to about 200 hp. You'll be smokin them Gsr's and keepin up with the Type R's.

As for me, I was thinking of turbocharging my car, but I think I'll save money for an evo now. Im very satisfied with my integra. But before you make a decision, make sure its realistic.
