Sunoco Ultra 94 gas and EVO 8's

I live in NYC and normally go out to NJ to visit my girl. I usually try to fill-up gas in NJ since its much cheaper out there.

anyways, I found Ultra 94 there around Fort Lee for $3.09 a gallon and got me a full tank then added a gallon of Toluene when I got home.

What my question for this thread is why doesnt NY get Ultra 94??? I remember a few years back we used to but now no more???

Don't feel too bad, all we get is 91 pisstane around here. I'd die for 93 octane.

A few North-East states have banned the use of MTBE (Methyl tert-Butyl Ether) in gasoline to supposedly protect the envoronment.

While doing this they have been forced to replace MTBE with ethanol.

I'm not a chemist so those chemical names mean nothing to me. jeez just for 1 octane more they ban Ultra 94?

You'd think a state so up in arms about polution would make gas stations sell higher octanes to get better gas mileage, but *shrug*.

higher octane has nothing to do with better gas mileage. in fact, running higher-than-prescribed octane fuels can have a negative impact on your fuel economy

there was something said once on here that 94 Sunoco burns inefficiently faster than 93 for minimum to insignificant performance gain...someone help me finish this thought....

I'm clueless on this one,

but I do know that where my family is from (Thailand) Their supreme/premium gas is rated at 95 Octane

Actually in most cases...not all running higher octane does induce better gas mileage, now i know this is not the case for all. Higher octane has a more efecient burn, leaving less unburnt gas in the combustion chamger. So for the evo....higher octane not only alows you to run more boost, it also gives you better gas mileage.

gasoline is also rated differently in different countries. It depends on the scale you're rating it against.

I thought the difference between lower and higher octane was in vapor pressure and burn rate. I thought higher octane fuel burned slower than lower octane fuel and thus would have less chance of pre-igniting in boosted and high compression engines. Maybe I was wrong.
