That wasn't my question. That was my opinion. My question was why is this guy worried about "gains" coming from getting bigger rims? If he wants gains get performance mods.

I highly doubt he means actual gains, I think he just doesnt want to loose any power.

War, "It is a forum rule, so you not only would be wrong for reporting someone for correcting you, but you'd be wrong for not following the forum rules." is a fragmented run-on. Thank you for the grammar lessen though.

What i meant by any attributes for bigger rims was : better steering or anything . Or would it hurt anything.

they did a comparision in the best motoring video of 18 vs 19s anf the 19s handled a little bit better(mostly due to a smaller sidewall tire being used) but over all the 18's prevailed with a faster track time.

So I think its safe to say that the smaller the rim the better, to a point of course. I dont think you are really going to see a difference in normal day to day drive if you have 18s though. If you track the car a lot( which I highly doubt) you might see a slight difference.

What??? That is not a fragmented run-on. Where did you get such an idea? A run-on sentence has no punctuation, yet my sentence has not only the proper punctuation, but also the proper conjunctions following each comma. It's also not fragmented in any way whatsoever. Even so, that sort of grammar knowledge is WELL BEYOND elementary school, which is all I said was required in the first place.

Btw, it's "lesson."

if you have brakes that won't fit behind 17x9" wheels, get the 18x9s. You must have 500+whp and drive only on hoosiers if you need 18" wheels for caliper/disc room.

For street I prefer running 17x9 with stock size or up you 255 40 17 tires. But if you want max performance for racing, 18x9.5- 18x10 wheels are need with 285 30 18 tires. You can run 17s with 275 40 17 but they are almost an inch taller than the 285s with 18s, which definitely will hurt the acceleration and steering response a little.

War .... your alright. By the way though the spelling errors are on purpose. I am just getting a rise outta ya. Your right though that was above elementary school grammar, but then again there are alot of differentlevels in elementary school , isn't there ?

Kevo, As to running 285's on the EVO, i thought there was a problem with running anything past a 255. Was that with your fenders being rolled because that size tire is "supposedly" to big for the EVO without rubbing.

Remember that Kevo's suggestions are in relation to SM-class SCCA autocross competition, within which he competes at a high level. This is not something you'd do for daily driving purposes...

So, War. What would be your personal preference for rim size and and depth for performance (as far as traction ) is concerned for daily driving ?

Stock. I drag race, autocross, and road all on the same size rims and tires. If you got into a certain type of racing, then you could focus your efforts and get a special set of tires and rims specifically suited for that type of racing, but I don't see any reason to change from stock if you are just looking for everyday performance on the street. You can get much more performance gains from using that money on the right power mods...

285 requires rolling both front and rear fenders and spacers or different offset front and rear. thats why I recommand 17 with 255 for street. 18s is not for looks(maybe fore some) and will give you benifit over 17s if you want to be competative. Unless hoosiers and Kumho decide to make some wider and shorter tires in 17s, 18s is still the ultimate choice for autox and track.

actually that's a misconception. commas are more often the perpetrators of run-on sentences than the cure.
