I went to the Darkside
As most of you know I had left a deposit on an Evo lX MR. It came in and the dealer wanted 6000.00 over MSRP for a total of 43995.00 plus tax,etc..... We could not come to an agreed price so I left with my deposit. The dealer called me back the next day and offered me 500.00 over MSRP. I say no and that subura made me a great deal on a STI. I told him if he had made me this deal yesterday, I would have taken it and he would have sold an MR.
Anyways, after leaving the dealership when we could not come together on a price, I stopped at the local Subaru dealer and told him the story regarding the Evo MR. He jump all over the situation and offered me a deal I could not turn down. I had 4 months left on my lease on my Saab 95 Aero. He paid off my lease (and I keep the car for the 4 months and turn it back to the bank at the end of the lease) and gave me the 06 STI for 1500.00 under MSRP. So I leased the STI for 3 years.
I test drove both car and here are my opinions:
The Evo felt more planted than the STI but the MR steering felt more twichy and the ride was much harsher. Both cars handled very well and I really could not decide which car had the edge. Power was pretty even, the STI power seemed a little more even across the the entire powerband, where as the Evo seem to have a rush above 3000-3500 RPM's. Ride quality I would have to give to the STI, as we all know, STI is a better daily driver. The Evo, even with the bilsteins, still was a very ruff ride and I felt ever bump and uneven patch in the road, I would say the Evo was a little quicker with the sterring. However, I hated the way the Evo made U-turns, sterring wheel turn from lock to lock was very short. The STI had an extra 1/2 turn and it makes a hugh difference.
Well there you go, both car are so great and the deciding differences for me were very very minor. You cannot go wrong with either car, IMO. I think for a lot of us this model year is just a place holder for what the future of these 2 cars hold. Since I would never buy a new total re-design the first or maybe even 2nd model year, I will be looking forward to what these great companies come up with next.

I don't disagree with your assessments, but if you consider the MR ride to be "very ruff," then it really gives us a good idea of where you're coming from. I went from an IS300 to my 05 MR, and I have never once considered it rough, nor does my wife, who drives a cushy Lexus SUV. I'm not saying it wasn't "rough" to you, just that if you think that's rough, then it's probably best you didn't get the deal on the MR to begin with. The STi sounds more suited to your tastes, so I think you'll enjoy your next 3 years.

good deal and I agree with everything you said. I'l never own another mitsu in my life because of just how crappy the dealerships are. They are both great cars and if I could do it all over again I would have gotten an STI
the 4g63 is great because its easy to work on and reliable as hell. However the boxer is just so powerful, my good friend has an 05 sti, he added a full exhaust, tune from cobb with a street tuner and his made 300+WHP that's amazing.
In return my car has cams, intake, full exhaust *no cats*, and gobs of other little things and i'm making right at 300+ WHP.
what color did you go with? I love the new 06's!!! For anyone in the mid-atlantic area I highly recommend paul at annapolis subaru for just outstanding salesman ship, hell the whole dealership is incredible!

If you mean something else by ".netter," then consider me clueless.

Your mods typically net 330whp on a Dynojet, but again, it depends on the location and settings. Either way, you can't really base how impressed you are on strictly dyno numbers. What the car accomplishes at the track is the key. I only dyno 294/270, but you can see my results...
