Oil Change woes... Reading 2qts High...Help!

I decided to change my own oil this weekend, did everything i was supposed to do (i think) and now the dipstick is reading about 1-2cm above the second line....

I lifted the front end on jack stands, just high enough for the front wheels to lift off the ground... drained the oil, and waited for about 20min, to make sure it all drained out.
Changed the oil filter, put the car back on the ground, and added 4.8qts of Mobil 1.

everything seems to be working fine, but, did i somehow leave a qt or two of the old oil inside the engine?

thanks.

where did you drain from? the filter? or the drain plug? ...sounds like you might have to do another change...
pop off the oil filter, then the drain plug...let it do it's thing...then put the drain plug back on(clean up the area), then add about .5 quart to your new filter and screw it back on...drop the car down...add the rest of the oil in the crankcase...till it's at the right mark. My car takes 5quarts all day...some take 4.8...some 4.9...

You can't get it all out. Oil cooler holds some, turbo, the feed lines, etc. But why did you put back 4.8 quarts? I usually only put in four quarts and start checking the dip stick to see where I'm at. Once it's at least to the MIN line I run the car to get the oil to operating temp and then top off as necessary.

I forgot to add that I do add oil to the new filter before screwing it on. I get as much as I can in there.

Worst case is you have to drain it out and just add less next time. You'll obviously need a clean container if you are going to reuse the oil.

I drained from the plug.... waited for about 20 min, then put it back on.

then I unscrewed the filter, and let it drain for maybe 2 minutes.... then i put a little oil on the rubber seal, and put the new filter on, then i dropped the car, and added the oil....

You need to have the car level when draining. I'm assuming you had the front jacked up during the drain. If so, you will not get everything out. Raise to get the plug out, drop level to drain, then raise to replace plug.

ahhhh..., I did a search on here before i started, and some guy was saying how nice the ramps were, because, you can get "every little bit" out of the oil pan because of the angle.....

I used rhino ramps to change my oil, and the car wasn't level, it took 4.75 quarts plus the oil I put in the filter and when I checked the oil it was perfect, right where it should be at the 2nd notch on the dipstick....
