Looking to get an Evo.....

What are the things to look out for?

What are the main issues that go wrong with Evo's that i should keep an eye out for?

Are there any positives or negitives about certain mods?

I know the clutch is an issue with many, how much is it to replace with a good (not race worthy) clutch?

Any other input welcome

For a decent clutch it will cost u about 1200-1500 depending on if u get someone to install and what type of clutch u get, mitsu will charge about 3000 for stock+install, just so u know. As for certain mods they all have their plus's and minuses, u got to be a little more specific and i would sugust that u do a search before asking becasue most times its already been answered. Would like to help out more but u got to be a bit more specific, as far as i know and personally other than the clutch the car runs/works great granted u maintain it and if u do mod mod correctly. Keep in mind the evo block has been a tried and tested engine as well as the car itself, yes there are a few minor problems but i think that comes down to the car u get off the production line, some are perfect, others are a little f uked. anyway hope this helped a bit and when u get a little more specific with ur guestions u will get more feedback.

The other thing I'd be aware of if you look at an 03 is the tranny. There were some syncro problems back then, but I haven't heard of them since. I had a grind going into 2nd (if I recall right) in my 03. My 05 (MR, so different tranny) didn't have any issues like that, and I didn't hear of any of these issues in any 04 or 05s. I have known more people with 03s thad didn't have problems than did though. Basically, take a nice test drive, and be aware of any *odd* things...I'd also be careful with modded cars unless they have documentation about the parts and install. Just my .02, good luck.

Problems for:

03 - You don't own one

04 - You don't own one

05 - You don't own one

Seriously, search first, then we'll help. This has been discussed more times than I can remember...

Just getting his attention. I'm more than happy to help, but people need to help themselves first. It takes a little effort to deserve a little effort.
