'03 Evo owner update
my heater knob is hard to turn too, i always forget about that, 21k and needs 2, 3 and 5 synchros, rear diff is howling as well T-case, need new clutch too. calipers peeling, umm other than that nothing.
41,000 miles..... I'm on my 4th set of tires and 2nd set of brake pads, but I drive like an ***, no track days, just daily blasts to and from work. But this isn't the cars fault. Oh, and my gas mileage sucks, only about 17 mpg.
Driver side HID went out at 30,000 miles, but it was replaced under warranty.
Brake caliper clear coat is peeling on all four corners, fronts especially. But the carbon fiber on the trunk spoiler is fine.
Temp. control knob (hot/cold knob) hard to turn.
And I can't believe noone has mentioned this one, the friggin headlights are/were pointed to low!!!!! I had to pull the lights and actually adjust them by taking the actuator apart.
Overall, very pleased with the maintenance records/costs of this car.

iac motor went bad at 25k, replaced under warranty.
Brembo paint gone at 29k, 4 new brembos under warranty.
Carbon fiber wing clear coat damage at 29k, replaced under warranty.
serpentine belt replaced under warranty at 27k due to unexplained rapid wear, new one is fine.
stock clutch replaced at 39k miles, with exedy organic and fidanza flywheel.
40k miles to date, and still... STILL loving it, I have been through many cars, because I always got bored with them, and I was feeling the same with the evo for a while, until I replaced the clutch and threw on some rims, damn I love my evo all over again!

31,500 miles. I bought it used at CarMax with 10,000 miles in May 2004.
Sunroof jammed open last May. Fixed under warranty.
The clutch is starting to slip. (I first noticed it just this past weekend when we got some sweater-wearing weather for the first time.) I also noticed that two other guys in this thread said their clutches started going at 32k, right about where mine is giving up.
At about 20,000 miles the 5th gear synchro started grinding a little bit, but only sometimes. I double-clutch 5th gear now, and I rarely notice it and it doesn't seem any worse.
No mods. I think. (I bought it used....). If it has any mods at all it might have a mild flash, but that would be about it.
I've done several HPDEs in the last year and a half, so I've gone through a couple of sets of brake pads and am on my third set of tires. I've got probably 1,000 track miles on the car. Only been to the drag strip once, and I rarely "launch" on the street.

20k miles, no mech. problems at all. Still stock clutch and holding fine. Wing was replaced and calipers replaced underwarranty due to delamination and pealing paint respectively.
sitting at around 17k. No Major problems, or atleast nothing that wasnt my fault. The only anoying thing is the front calipers are pealing. How can I fix this? No one notices but it bugs the hell out of me.

just rolled over 40k.
1. Temp knobs hard to turn. Claim denied b/c it is out of full warrenty. Dealer printed out the fix procedures and seemed pretty easy to do by myself.
2. Had that fan relay replaced as a recall.
3. Clutch still grabs hard as the day I got it, even after some pretty good abuse, but no launches.
4. Driver side front strut starting clunking around 30k, thought it was coil snap, just when I purchased the rubber hosing, the clunk went away all the sudden, and has not come back.
5. very unhappy with paint quality as it is paper thin, anything would chip it and result in rust....
6. 2nd set of brake pads, and changed the front rotors due to wrap. But now that I think about it, I should have just tried rebedding them again instead...but not a bad idea to have an extra set of rotors around.
and still love every second in the car.
