Is there a hole in my gas tank?

I just put in my 4th tank of gas and this time I filled it to the rim. I travel about 50/50 highway vs city and am averaging barely 200 miles per tank . I hardly ever haul a$$ and try to stay in as high gear as possible. I thought I should be averaging at least 20 miles per gallon. Where does Mitsu get its stats from?
Confused

how are we supposed to know if there is a hole there... if your not leaking fuel then something is wrong, keep your foot out of it, or you need a tune... avg m.p.g is about 26.. if you ten gallons, go 250 mi, then you are getting 25 mpg.. mi. divided by gallons

Dude, you definitly have a lead foot. On the normal i get between 250-270 mpg. It isn't the high gears that are helping i would stay with the low RPMs. I keep mine shifting at 3000 RPM. I know it sounds pansey but if you want to conserve fuel be more cautious of that Tach.

I hope someone would notice if they did indeed have a hole in the gas tank? Up here in Minot ND a few winters ago.... My POS had a hole in the fuel line and would make Gasicles from it. Anyone know how cold is has to be for gas to freeze? I do. Bought the car for 100 bucks, sold it for 5!... HAHA Sucker! I'm not kidding either. When spring time came, i would get about 100 miles a tank. Of course i only had it a total of 3 or 4 months though...

Take out your filter and knock it out really well.

My filter was filthy and it was killing my gas mileage.

I could be mistaken, but I thought the he was just joking with the "hole in the gas tank" part. That's the sort of back-handed thing someone would say when it seems like they are guzzling gas at a higher rate than expected.

AC556K, you said you top off the gas when refueling, but how low do you go before filling up again? Do you go to the 1/4 mark...to the 1/8th mark...to the point the warning light comes on...or to the very bottom tick mark where the E is? I pretty much go to the bottom tick mark and only get 240-250 miles out of it. I almost always avg 19-20mpg on every tank. I drive 25 miles round trip while cruising at 65mph. I do boost all over the place in between, but my mileage averages out about the same every time. If you are getting 200 miles per tank and refueling at the 1/8th or 1/4, then you're just like me. If it's only getting 200 miles all the way down to the final tick mark, then maybe your car just needs to break in more. Many of us saw better gas mileage after 1000 miles.

The go pedal is just too addicting in these cars; get a boost gauge and stay out of boost, you can get around 300 miles per tank.

I think the oil Mitsubishi puts in when you buy the car is crap. I just changed to Royal Purple 10w30 at 2000 miles and now I get 50 miles more per tank and I drive the same. I used to get 180 now I get 230. Just a suggestion....

They use Mobil 1, which is the recommended oil for our car.

It is not a hole, its just a new car. I have an 05 and my gas milage is slowly going up tank by tank. I have gone through a tank babying it the whole time and got 16mpg. 1500 miles later i can go through a tank getting on it somewhat often and get about 20mpg. You just have to let your motor break in a little better and the milage will start to go up.

Just because they recommend mobil 1, doesnt mean thats what they put in it. You know how shady most dealers are, and if they can save money they will. You don't know the dealer I bought my car from, and after they forged my signature, I won't believe a thing they tell me.

Dealers don't put the oil in new cars, though. It shows up with the oil already in it...

I barely get 200 miles per tank full. You need to drive like a grandma to get good mileage out of an evo.

I have 1148 miles on the car as of today. I am going to Mobil to fill up in about 10 minutes. I try to bring it down to the warning light and right now it is glowing yellow and I have only gotten 187 miles .
