I feel you man, some people on hear are just jerks. "If you don't know, then you don't need gauges".....Gauges are a personal thing. You really don't need them except a boost gauge. Gauges range from $50 - $400. Defi makes great gauges and they match your factory gauge cluster. You shouldn't pay more then $600. Any don't pay install charges. Do it yourself. There is a lot of info on these forums for gauge installs. Just my thoughts.

Yeah, the $1,200 for 3 Defi gauges installed may be inline, since Defi gaugues themselves are expensive. There are really god tutorials for boost gauge and EGT installs here, if you search, so you can save some $$ on labor. Wideband a/f is a good choice in addition to boost

I would try and run 3 if you can Boost, Oil PSI and a true WideBand. not that Autometer A/F Gauge.

Porsche and Ferrari have oil pressure gauge standard, does that tell you anything?

Sorry just half-kidding.

I personally believe in oil pressure gauge because I track (road course) a lot. Things can go wrong there. And you only have SECONDS to react if the oil pressure drops to below acceptable level.

Having said that, if you just daily-drive the car with occasional drag stripping, well I suppose oil temp and oil pressure ARE relatively worthless.

You know what, there is no need to be a dick.... People ask questions because they don't know, so why don't you just STFU and stay out unless you have some to add

I wasn't being a dick number one. Number two, I did add something. At the very least I was trying to save him some money.

If you need to monitor something, let's say AFR because you're tuning yourself, or upping boost, or what ever. Then you buy a gauge imo. Having a gauge because it "looks cool" is pretty dumb IMO.

If you took my opinion as offensive, I appologize, it wasn't meant to be.

4TUN8,

I do plan to mod, I just got the car two months ago so it is still stock... I am going to SEMA next week, and will try to work out a deal with some of the companies that make gauges and gauge pods... I was just wondering what the most important gauges are, so I can get them in advance...

that is not a very good advice. you will need gauges even if you don't know which ones to get because you can always learn about what they do and how to read them. not having gauges is like driving blind folded. now, if you car is stock or close to stock (no extensive mods) than a boost gauge is all you will need because it will enable you to know the way your car builds boost, see if it has any leaks, learn the right shift points etc.. now, if your car is modded (ecu, fuel setup, turbo kits etc..) than you will need more gauges if you want to be safe and really know what is going on under your hood. i have used oil temp, egt and boost in my evo. egt is always good way to monitor the engine as well as oil temp. oil pressure is not really needed because by the time you find out that the oil pressure is insufficiant, your engine is already gone most of the time. A/F gauges are really worthless IMHO because they are really not accurate. if you can afford a WB O2 than that would be the best. they are VERY accurate and well worth the price because they can save your engine. now, i would advice you to buy the gauges that you need but you MUST read a bit and learn what each gauge does and how to read it. even the best Wide band sensor is useless if you don't know what the numbers mean and how to use them.

Thanks.

no problem. feel free to talk to me on pms or aim if you have any questions regarding the install or the gauges. i can also get you in touch with some vendors that will give you a fantastic deal on some gauges and the pods.

Ok here's my advice then.

MAP sensor and something that will read/log it.
WB o2 sensor with standalone gauge and logging
EGT

Everything else is CDI.

My point was, the guy doesn't know enough about the car to even know what he needs to monitor.
