finally drove the evo for first time...
I started driving 23 years ago with a Ford Capri V-6,then Mustang GT,VW GTI 16V,Mitsu Eclipse GS-T,and now a EVO.Life can't get any better when I get a chance to hit the road. It's next to impossible to walk into the garage and see the EVO sitting there...waiting for me.

The longer you wait the more rewarding it will be.
giggling like a drunken school girl - that was me in the car alright. thanks for the compliments mate. btw i was in san ramon the whole day yesterday hehe

and yea i got busted lol. my hotel had no internet so i couldn't check this thread till about 3 hours ago when i got back to my home in socal...i was laughing when i first found out the Evo's owner just posted in my thread haha.
serioulsy though, the day i get to drive my Evo off the lot.....i am going to finish the engine break in period on the same day. i will keep the rpm at 2k the whole time for that first 600 miles ( i believe) so i can build up more anticipation and suspense for the actual speed of the car. btw from wut some members are sayin here the Evo IX with the mivec addition is pretty darn powerful
I feel you fusionchicken. I waited two years to get my EVO. I've lusted after them since 97 when I started watching clips of WRC here and there, and reading about them. Then I read about the EVO8 launch in the US, but couldn't afford one till two years later. I got mine with 18k miles used. In the first month I drove over 8k miles!
I just can't stop driving! I'm addicted. I need to join a group or something. EDA (evo drivers anonymous)

lol. wow 2 years is a long wait....i used to be the kind of person who wouldn't know a differnce between a bmw and a toyota if i see them on the streets. as soon as one of my 16 yr old lucky *** rich friend got his 2003 tb evo....i fell in luv with cars in general. he was showing me the mitsu website and i was addicted to the Evo page for literally the whole night, just reading everything on it over and over. but the first time i saw the evo in real life i thought it was too boxy and not aerodynamic enough for a fast car. so i started changing my dream cars to at first the e46 m3 6spd, then the supra TT, then various other cars...but at the end i'm back on the Evo about 3 months ago lol. now that i've driven one the Evo's the car for me. no question. it's the car of no return for me.

turns out 2 ppl there needed a ride back to san francisco from fremont (where we were), it's almost a 100 mile trip back+forth..so the dude's like "why dont u take these 2 folks home, then u can drive back to the hotel u're stayin at then i'll drive back to my house from ur hotel), basically i couldn't believe my ears, and i was insanely excited (for those who don't know, i'm utterly obsessed with the evo) not only did i get to drive my dream car for the very first time in my life but i get to drive it for 1.5 hrs (including hotel trips) while pushing the car a lil since the dude was cool about it.
so last night was arguably the best night of my life.
the car had 2700 miles on it, just broken in
so with 4 ppl including me in the car (there was this dude close to 300 lbs in there too), there's about 650 lbs total in the car... but the car still accelerates like a MOTHER. some ppl said it's hard to manage a turbo car on the streets or somethin, but for the Evo i found it to be very easily manageable. 3500 on tachometer is the sweet spot, whenever i'm there the car just jumps. it's an AWESOME feeling. so the whole time driving i was just random pushing random gears, tryin to see how crazy this car can get. everytime the turbo goes full boost at 3500 everybody in the car get planted in the seats, 'twas funny but AWESOME. so the Evo is famous for it's handling and cornering ability, so of course i wanted to give it a lil try. but with 3 other ppl in the car i couldn't do much. only time i got to try it out was at a freeway exit, where there was this close to 90 degree left turn on a slight uphill...i basically entered the corner at 35 mph in 2nd gear and i kept accelerating through the corner and came out of it at like 60 mph....it is a feelin i can not yet describe with words...i was just FREAKIN hmmm IMPRESSED. i couldn't stop smiling and at times laughing like a retard. everytime i push the gear to around 3500 rpm or more, i just kept sayin "wow". on some other curved on/off ramps i pushed the car a lil too and although at corner entry the car feels a lil "unstable" but after that u realize that the car's actually gripping like a MOTHER and still begs for MORE.... on the way back from SF there was much less weight in the car, so the car was even faster (the 300lb guy was not in the car no more, the other 120 lb girl was off too)...so i just had a FREAKIN blast with the car...makes me want the Evo even more badly than before now....as many of u know there are more cops out there now that the year's ending since they're trying to meet their quotas and stuff, so i was driving at 70 mph almost the whole time on the freeway...at this point there was no other cars around us, so i took the car from 70 to 100 in 5TH GEAR...and dude, it was plenty fast for me already
at 70 the engine's runnin at 3000 rpm...so on the way to 100 mph the turbo kicks in and everything just went from great to AWESOME...btw the Evo is pretty quiet on the highway, way quieter than my integra gsr...also the ride is a lot smoother at high speed; the suspension isn't near as stiff as my integra (teg has eibach springs dropped 1.5'' all around), so ride quality was great IMO.
so in short, the acceleration is fantastic, esp when turbo kicks in (GOSH I LOVE THAT FEELING), and corning ability....wow. i LOVE THE EVO EVEN MORE NOW, DAMN IT. the only thing holding me back is that i have to pay for my college tuition (25k+/year) so i still can't comfortably afford an Evo, or else that car will be on my driveway by tomorrow when i'm back home..
sorry for the LONG post, but i'm very excited. i think from this point things in life might be going down hill for a while....until i purchase an Evo

, yeah same thing happend to me, had a very nice fixed up 3000GT VR4, never thought I'd get rid of it for anything. Drove the EVO once, and became obsessed with owning one ever since. Problems occured which made it a lot tougher to buy an EVO, but hopefully in the near future I will have my dream car.
A couple of months ago, I went by my friends place of buisness to pick up his car. I was going to install a turbo back exhaust for him. I left my car there with the keys in case he wanted to go somewhere, well when I got back he was smiles from ear to ear. He told me that he could not drive his evo anymore because it felt real slow compared to mine.
sigh.....patience....perserverance....yea.....
0% apr doesn't apply for 2006 models according to my dealer. $0 down and 1 yr of gas (until 10/31/2005 - in 8 days) still apply for a new IX MR.
i could just sell my gsr (at least $10,000, will try to go for 11.5 or 11k), settle for a right-under-$600 monthly with 4.9 apr (i have a credit score of over 750, but 4.9's the best i can get according to dealer). the dealer's willing to give me invoice on the IX MR. in this case i'd have a bit over a year to pay the Evo IX MR with my integra's money, and in this year of paying the Evo with my integra money i could save up for more future payments. so technically i COULD get an Evo now....only if my mom decides to help me out with school payments for a while lol.
ahh i'd do anything just to drive an Evo again.....until i own one....

Awesome that you got to drive the Evo, finally. Im sure that most all of us, as owners, share your enthusiasm. Everyday is a thrill with this car - if its not the feeling you get from driving, its the LOOKS from others, or the sound etc. I hope that you'll be getting a set of keys for one soon.
OTOH, your post illustrates exactly why most evo owners dont dare let someone else drive their car.

nope u did not sound like a jerk, not at all
yea i couldn't really beat the crap outta the evo because 1) there were 3 ppl in the car 2) i like the car too much to do anything crazy to it. 3) it's not my car. if that evo were mine one of the few things i would do is to launch it and get that shooting-out-like-a-rocket feeling from a dig. hehe. but of course i didnt do that to the Evo i drove. cutting a semi-corner while accelerating from 35-60 mph and pushing only ONCE the 2nd gear to 5.5k rpm (not even redline) are normal driving lol.
it's a damn fun car, seriously thinking about just getting one and work my *** off for school and Evo payments....i think it'll be worth every ounce of my energy and effort and time...

. You got soooo busted, but hey...thats ok. I'm such you, being such a respectful driver, would never beat on another persons car. I personally believe everything you said *wink*

hope I didnt come off sounding like a jerk there. No offense intended.
