Most of my friends can't understand why I would want something faster/better (or whatever) than my current GTI VR6. While it's a fun car and fairly quick, it doesn't compare with the Evo (or STi) in the performance department.
I hate it when someone asks me, "Where are you gonna use all that extra power, anyway?" I can't even begin to answer that one because no matter what I say, they still won't see eye-to-eye.
I gotta have my toys!!!

Seriously, if your biggest problem is that your dad gives you dirty looks before you get into your evo, just be thankful you're fortunate enough to have one at your age. Humility is good for the soul.

Please tell him that "image" isn't everything. A person's level of maturity has nothing to do with the type of car they drive. If an individual is only concerned with outward appearances, then they are superficial in my book.

haha i had the saaaaame problem dude but what i did was say i wanted the wrx which my dad HATED especailly because of the name "subaru" and after a long time i was like ok fine ill have the mitsubishi evolution and he was releived from hearing the word subaru so he was like ok cool mitsubishi
Here is my 2 cents on the matter-
First- A Little background - My parents just put the deposite down on my Evo, they are going to pay for it, i'm 18, and this is my (amazing) high school graduation present.
But back to the important stuff- my dad has never seen the car and he does not like it, my mom is the same way, but they know it is what i want, and they say it is the only time some one is going to give you a car so get what you want. BUT in my opion i am GLAD, in fact EXTATIC that he does not like it......you know why...........your gunnna love this one..........I dont have to worry about him driving it. I have watched him bet the crap out of my brothers jetta VR6, and the idea of him never getting behind the wheel of my evo is great

Here is my advice find a girl that your dad can't stand and tell him she's pregnant and your going to Vegas to get married! I am sure he will forget all about your car! Oh yeah make sure she is like 45 yrs old! that should work!!! JK
When I got a (then) new 89 Mustang GT, my Mom *****ed about how "it turns too fast, it goes too fast, I don't like it...", and I told her she might want to consider renting a slow car when hers is busted from now on. Heh heh, that still makes me laugh. My Dad liked it, though. Of course, he was a hot-rod dude in his days (the Fifties).
I would tell him he is right, the Evo sucks, and he is wise while you are a fool, and you hope someday you can be as wise as he is. But then, I am a sarcastic smart-***.

Here is a thought, take him to a driving school, let an instructor take you and your father a couple of times around the track. At the end he will either wet his pants or have a huge smile on his face. Either response would be priceless.

On second thought if your Dad did buy it, then you have to take the crap.
Option 1
- Tell your Dad off
- Pay your own way
- Stay cozy and warm
- Enjoy your car
- wait for your dad's approval for the rest of your life.
Yeah, who cares?
You and he will get over it.
Not to mention doesn't this really belong in O/T? It really has no EVO information/value.

The point is age isn't really a factor in this arguement. It's just preference. Just tell your dad that we all have difference preferences and that you would be much more happy to drive an Evo that those other cars you mentioned. If your dad needs a ride from you drive the other cars other than the Evo. I sure that would make more tolerable for him to have an Evo around.
