Save Gas with EBC?

Now I've been reading about the manual vs. eletronic debate on evo m, both sides have valid points.

But one question intrigues me the most.... since in a EBC you can change boost with a flip, don't you save gas when you dont want your car to go THAT fast? For example,
I drive my car as a commuter and sometimes fun.... commuter = 10 psi, fun = 20psi?

comments please

I know for other cars, not sure about evo but its probably possible, they have these things that plug into your computer or something and you can either put it at full mpg or full power or somewhere in the middle, I was going to buy one for my jeep but i decided less power even for long trips would suck *** =p

From my experience (with STi), NO.

Even if you 'turn off' the EBC, the car can still boost up to around 11psi. NOT "zero" boost. So even if you accelerate 'slowly', the fact that the EBC is 'off' usually has no effect on fuel consumption because you'd be boosting anyway.

And if you DON'T boost i.e. drive really casually, well then it REALLY doesn't matter because you'd HARDLY boost.

Therefore you can only save gas IF YOUR NORMAL DRIVING SYTLE INVOLVES A LOT OF WOT THAT GIVES RISE TO MORE THAN 11PSI BOOST. So if your EBC is 'off' you are capped at 11psi, hence saving gas.... but then again, you don't have as much fun (with 11psi) so what's the point, right?

Do you understand what I'm saying? Sorry I think it's kind of confusing... Well the short answer is NO. The only way to save gas is just be gentle with that right foot.

I'm weak and my right foot keeps asking for more and more gas

i had a diode (4.7w/4.3w) setup on my old vw. one for low boost...one for highboost. you have to solder some wires together, and it was operated by flipping a switch. i'm not sure if mitsu's are set up the same way.

you will save gas by not boosting as high (maybe 2mpg), but the savings is not worth it - imo

I installed an ebc about a week ago, and GDB is absolutely correct. You probably never boost over 10psi on the freeway anyway, so you won't be saving any gas. Like he said, you only save gas at wot, and at that point, who cares.
